Went there for a long weekend with friends. We are a bunch of young people in our twenties. There are very limited things to do in the evening. About 4hrs drive from Sydney. Mogo was fun but the mining town wasn't as spectacular as Ballarat.

Batemans bay is a lovely place for a stop over when you are heading further down the south coast. Make sure you check out the shopping and leave earlier as traffic becomes a bit of a nightmare .

I love this place. There is peace here. And tranquility. It doesn't need to be searched for, it's just there. Bateman's Bay is truly one of God's masterpieces. At night the stars are so bright, so close you feel like you can touch them...and fun for someone from the northern hemisphere to look in the southern hemisphere skies to find... More

Whether you want to play some golf on one of the beautiful courses along the coast, walk the beaches, visit Mogo, take a trip down the river or just sample the fabulous fish and chips, you have to stay at The Bay. Great variety in accomodation.

Situated in a lovely part of the NSW South Coast you will find Batemans Bay. Founded in 1885 and named by Captain James Cook after 2 possibilities, Nathanial Bateman Captain of the HMS Northumberland on which Cook served, or John Bateman, 2nd Viscount Bateman, a former Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty in the 1750s, no confirmation was given regarding either.... Beautiful coastal resort and amazing beaches with that extra special feel when dolphins swim back and forth in front of you rounding up fish to eat. Stayed at the Big 4 Beach Resort and it was brilliant and top class, just 30 feet onto the beach. Pristine camp kitchen and the ensure sites felt like they had never been used... More

Canberrans are obsessed with the South Coast - because it's close, I suppose. If the weather is half way decent (which it rarely is at the south coast), you might have an alright day, but the town centre is waning a bit, difficult to find good food, and the local accommodation needs updating all round. Great in the 80s/90s, but... More
