Much more to see than first anticipated. Highlight was the Sidney Nolan paintings - the Ned Kelly series. Spent ages in there - remarkable work. Spent a good few hours there with the kids in tow ... plenty to see with some exceptional works of art which we didn't expect to see. Well worth a visit.

The National Gallery is another "must" when visiting Canberra. Regrettably however, paid parking is being introduced.

This is a great place to go any time of year regardless of any touring exhibitions. I have been here many times and always find something new. Did I mention it's free?

A wonderful building on the shore of Lake Burley Griffin with vistas in every direction. The Gallery has been extended since our last visit and now includes a purpose-built entrance for a stunning display of Indigenous Totem Poles representing the various regions of Australia. I advise you to wear comfortable shoes and allow time to take one of the free... More

Didn't find the displays to be self explanatory, so it was a very quick trip. Things to look at, but no back story.

Excellent collection and display! It's so easy to immerse yourself among the collection. Obviously you will need one full day to enjoy this museum. This is the place that provides comfort not only for the collections but also the visitors.

We are not lovers of art, but being close by we decide to visit the National Gallery. We were pleasantly surprised. The range and standard of art on display is excellent and it demonstrates the depth and quality of Australian art. There are also a couple of Monets to see, which we always love viewing. We enjoyed the variety of... More

So many collections we couldn't see them all in one day. Jackson Pollack's huge work Blue Poles was a standout and my non arty 12 yo son studied it for about 10 minutes and we sat and looked at it for at least another 5 minutes. We loved the Ned Kelly series by Sidney Nolan. Spent hours there until our... More

Amazing to be able to immerse oneself in so many pieces of art that I thought I'd never actually see.

Ok so let's be clear about something......... I am not an artist. So let me start with the cafe. Good food and tasty homemade baked goods. Then there is the art gallery..........even as a non art lover I still found some things that I thought were great. Going around the various rooms there was some amazing and interesting things. Then... More
