I have always wanted to visit the NGA and finally did so last week. Having seen the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, I have to say - the NGA was disappointing. The Sidney Nolan Gallery was excellent, but the remaining exhibits were uninspiring. I expected better from our National Capital.

There's lots of space in this gallery. On the day we visited it was relatively quiet so felt peaceful and serene with plenty of room to linger. The sculpture garden was quite lovely with the added benefit of some fly in visitors (the King Parrots!). And it was all free (we didn't visit the one exhibition which attracted an entry... More

Well organised & interestingly curated - very impressed. No need to see special exhibitions as there's so much to see anyway.

Being in the capital city I thought there would be more major works on display. I think that regional areas of Victoria and Melbourne Art Gallery and Fed Square have much better artworks on display, which is ok but I thought Canberra could have had more.

I did not get to see all of the exhibitions, but I enjoyed the exhibitions I was able to see and there is a really nice gift shop. Did not have to pay to enter.

Love the position across the water from the National Carillon - walking through the gardens of the sculpture park, bathed in the mist from the Fujiko Nakaya Fog sculpture, listening to the beautiful bells ... doesn't get much better than that. Some more beautiful Australian Impressionism as well as great stuff from around the world. Make a day of visiting... More

We only walked around outside the gallery with our children. The range of sculptures to admire was great and the kids greatly enjoyed them as well.

We didn't really like this gallery. Maybe it just wasn't right for us. The building was pretty impressive though.

I loved the building and the art works are fantastic. We saw the Arthur Boyd exhibition whilst we were visiting the gallery. What an icon of Australia, extraordinarily talented painter. The gallery has examples from all art eras in history. Highly recommended
