Ive visited the national gallery numerous times over the years .Sometimes for an hour other times for 2-3. I always find something new to view in the gallery itself or simply like to sit or wander around the building and take it all in. The coffee and gift shops are also worth a glance.I will look forward to many more... More

Lovely to walk around the gallery when there is an exhibition on. The gallery has an eclectic range of art from all over the world and and a wide variety of Aboriginal art. Very well laid out and staff are friendly and polite. I saw the James Turrell Light exhibition and was blown away. However I was not too keen... More

Whilst trying to the real tourist thing we were a bit disappointed with the National Gallery. We were watched like hawks because I had a camera and you couldn't take photos yet other guest were taking photos with their phones.

On a cold, windy morning I set out with some trepidation to take my 3 year old grandson on his first visit to an art gallery. I needn't have feared. He loved it. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander galleries provided lots of discussion about the animals on the drawings, the height of the poles and the differences on the.... More

There's currently a major upgrade work going on for the international art section, scheduled to finish in December this year. I would have delayed the visit if I knew about it. I don't remember seeing any notice on their website.

Well it was not like the galleries in New York, London or Paris but for the rather remote city of Canberra it was fantastic and worth the excursion. Modern, clean and friendly.

The new entrance renovation makes the National Gallery of Australia rank up with the premiere Art galleries across the globe. The permanent exhibitions are worth a visit alone, but the temporary shows are usually diverse and interesting.

I parked away and enjoyed the walk along the lake and sculpture garden outside the gallery to start with. Set up really well inside with so much to look at, great info with all the art as well. There were some great special exhibits set up when I visited, just luck of the run i guess. But there is always... More

Not enough time. Great place to visit. Must see the Blue Poles and the Aboriginal art especially the one with all the ashtrays (Ash Me). Had free parking for first 3 hours and café at back
