Went to the Tom Roberts exhibition. Very well curated and the audio was very informative spoken by Michael Cathcart using his subtle tone of voice. Tom Roberts was able to paint on a large scale as well as paint on small cigar boxes. His portraits were magnificent especially in the Large Painting of the opening of Federation where he painted... Saw the Tom Roberts exhibition and enjoyed high tea in the pop-up Wedgwood tea rooms. The exhibition is stunning, the number and quality of the works on show is exceptional and the curators' notes are really helpful. Several works that were unknown to me were real highlights, and the really famous ones (including the painting of the opening of the... More

We enjoyed the native Australian art on view at this gallery. Car parking was free on a Sunday. The indoor café closes at 4.30 but the outdoor one at 4.00.

We did not pay for the current exhibition, but instead visited the free areas in the gallery. Surprisingly we enjoyed the galleries in Sydney & Melbourne much more, but we did particularly enjoy the sculptures outside near the lake.

We spent a couple of hours wondering around, I wasn't fussed on the modern art but some pretentious warp warps discussing a black canvas gave us a giggle, some big name artists, Monet, Andy Warhol etc. Didn't think much of the gift shop, no little souvenirs, we like to purchase a little something to remind us of our trip, we... The sculptures outside are fabulous and so different. Inside I spent a long time viewing the enormous quantity of Aboriginal art and textiles and artefacts. Beautifully displayed and I was surprised by the huge variety of styles and techniques. There were other collections which I did not have time to see... you could probably spend most of the day there!!

We travelled to NGA to see the Tom Roberts Exhibition. It was very well put together. I chose to do the audio tour and my husband just read the notes displayed at the various vantage points. I wouldn't bother with the audio next time. We also strolled around the rest of the gallery and loved the individual collections /displays. Lunch... More
