A lot of positive comments may be made about our visit to the National Gallery of Australia. We enjoyed it immensely. If not familiar with the gallery, taking a 'Gallery Highlights' tour is recommended to provide you with an overview. We found our guide very knowledgeable and willing to share her expertise and passion for art. These run for about... More

The National Gallery is an amazing collection of Australian art, with many international collections on display at times. I have visited many times over the years and the quality of the collection is outstanding.

We visit regularly and this time went for the "normal" exhibition. Terrific wheelchair access and a great display space. A wide range of art types to give something worthwhile right across the spectrum.

Not being an Art lover I have found the Gallery over the years to be a delight when special International Collections are on display. While the galleries are fine, the dark and bleak concrete walls are depressing. The various ongoing displays are worth a look but after awhile it becomes a bit of a rabbit warren trying to find your... More

The NGA has an excellent selection of Australian and International art that is sure to please even the most discerning gallery visitor. There are several not to be missed works, including Pollock's Blue Poles, Nolan's Kelly series and the Indigenous art wing. An odd layout means that the Australian Art galleries (held in 'the attic') can be easy to miss.... More

I was pleased to see the range of indigenous art as well as a memorial exhibition. It's as good a gallery as you can find anywhere in Australia.

Starting with the Cafe - the food is worthwhile trying at reasonable prices. The museum itself is worth seeing. History has provided us with some interesting artifacts a wonderful way of seeing how our tools and machinery have evolved. The museum does change it's displays so you never get tired of going there. The views and location has a relaxing... More

Lots to see - the Asian Gallery and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artworks are especially good. Likewise the outside sculpture garden which is also pleasant for a picnic looking out to Lake Burley Griffen. And not to be missed is James Turrell's Within Without installation.

The gallery is still evolving, with an emphasis on Australian artists, especially Aboriginal artists. It is a great place for children and in addition to the vast galleries in the main building there is a very beautiful sculpture garden in the grounds.
