A brilliant collection of books and other items relating to the history of Australia in a small museum just in from the foyer. Just the right amount; no museum indigestion here! The cafe in the foyer is great too; crowded at lunch but OK before 11.30.

Not really tourist friendly, I looked through two exhibitions and lighting was so poor I could not read the descriptions. My handbag can be worn as a backpack and was confiscated, for what reason? Other ladies were carrying handbags bigger than mine.

Captain cooks journal, handwritten notes from Bligh, Banjo paterson's handwritten Waltzing Matida on a music sheet, the first playbill in Australia, miraculously preserved. True treasures.

The National Library of Australia really is a world class facility, equal to many I have used overseas. The material is well organised, comprehensive, the online ordering service is efficient and the staff not only knowledgeable, but helpful as well. Because of my addiction for books I avoid the bookshop in the lobby for the sake of my bank balance... More

I went to Canberra to follow up on some old newspapers and magazines for a book I am researching about my property. The staff were friendly and helpful and genuinely interested in my project. We also perused the little museum they have with all different forms of records, drawings, prose, books, etchings. Just Fantastic!

Amazing. Beyond amazing. I love libraries and I definitely would move into this library if it was humanly possible!

If you thought the library was large you have to take the behind the scenes tour, where you'll see the old tubes system and the size of the archiving and stores of books underneath; as well as meeting 'Charlie'
