Great displays of some very significant paintings - the closest most Aussies will get to some of the better known artists. No troubles with parking etc. A bit confusing - limited way finding to guide you around the displays - you kept having to walk around to check if you had already seen some areas. The attendants dotted throughout the... More

During our stay in Canberra we were keen to view the James Turrell exhibition. After some confusion over booking admittance we ascertained that you only need to book the optional cell immersion experience. [added cost] Consequently we were able to view the general exhibition at our preferred time slot. It is very different & hard to describe the content of the... More

Excellent quality of portrait in a very nice display. This is a place to learn about people that makes Australia as Australia while also sensing their emotions through the paintings. Can be a bit of scary experience.

Must say it is a good place to visit, however due to limited time we had with the school trip could have used time more wisely at other locations

We all loved this exhibition. Interesting concept and awesome artwork. Really interesting. I don't have 50words to write about it Trip Advisor so stop being painful. Go and see the gallery, it is worth it.

I enjoyed this , my husband is Australian and he really enjoyed it . Portaits of all sorts of well known and not so well known Australians. Short walk to the Naional Art Gallery next door. There is a nice cafe at the back of the Gallery that looks over the river. Lovely view. ,outdoor deck. Admission is free.

The national portrait gallery would have to be one of,if not the, best portrait gallery in the world. It is beautiful and the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. There was a wonderful exhibition on when we visited, unfortunately we didn't have the time to see it. Definitely worth a visit and re-visit when in Canberra.

This was a wonderful exhibition with portrayals of people at different ages and stages of life. Loved the little babies by Sam Jinks - they looked so real, but they were made of silicon, human hair and resin. Delightful.

We've been to Canberra many times and only recently discovered the Portrait Gallery. This would have to be one of the highlights of Canberra. It is located beside the law courts and National Gallery and is easy to park underneath and entry is no cost. The portraits are a combination of old and new so there's something of interest for...
