I enjoyed this immensely so many different styles of paintings, and I am not an art critic! Not a place to take small children

Visited the NPG in August, and left remarkably impressed. From the underground parking to the front desk service, it was an outstanding experience. The exhibits themselves are world class quality, and the architecture of the building itself is enough to keep your eyes entertained. Next time I will be back with more time to enjoy each and every gallery with... More

There were a couple of interesting temporary exhibits, but the standard portraits didn't really grab the imagination for a non-Australian. Make sure you check out what's on before you visit.

A relatively new addition to Canberra the NPG is a really wonderful place to visit for all. You will see so many easily recognisable portraits here it is truly our history in portraits. The Book shop is a must-see with a huge array of books, jewellery and little knick-knacks and the staff are lovely. The cafe is a little on... More

Very impressive building both inside and out. Very well maintained, and very clean. Spent an hour or so in the afternoon until closing, and then back the next day to finish our wander. Especially liked the surfing exhibition-was it really way back in the 70's when we started to wear ugg boots. Cudos to the locals for free entry and... More

The National Portrait Gallery has been on our to-do-list and we finally made it there. We enjoyed the tour learning some very interesting facts about Australia and it's people. The architecture of the building is fascinating. Well worth a visit, would recommend doing the tour.
