Always great to visit the National Portrait Gallery. Their special Exhibitions are always very interesting. The National portrait gallery has a great collection of paintings from very old to very recent. The Queen's painting, last year, my favourite! You will have to travel to the UK to see it now! The building itself will also be of interest to the... More

First visit on 25 July 2015 and definitely will not be the last. In fact we came back the next morning before heading home. After visits to the AWM and National Museum of Australia we had experienced some first class displays. However this experience did not pale and in fact as something unexpected I would place it as an absolute... More

Unfortunately, we only had an hour or so to see this brilliant addition to Caberra's attractions. Fantastic, fascinating displays, masses of information, great art covering so much of Australia's history and society- really demands lots of time or several visits. We were blown away on this our first visit,? Now it goes onto what is an increasingly long list of... More

Visited the National Portrait Gallery recently and honestly, I could have spend all day there! Fantastic collection of portraits - really like an Australian history lesson. Very well planned large galleries allow you to pause, read and ponder, without blocking another person's view.

This is a must do on your visit to Canberra if your into portraiture. The gallery is set out beautifully, the atmosphere is good and... it's free. You may need no more than an hour there.

The National Portrait Gallery really is first class. The layout and architecture of the building is wonderful. I never tire of a quick visit to see any new additions that have come about. Previously I haven't enjoyed the cafe, so I gave it a miss this time.

This is a not to be missed gallery. Take the free 60 min tour to understand the background to the building and the displays then relax at your own time. Staff were exceptional in their knowledge.

Housed in an attractive building, the Portrait Gallery is a well curated collection of Australian portraiture through the years of settlement. The contemporary is well represented but the earlier years provide a visual history of our early Australians. Well worth a couple of hours.

On a recent weekend away to Canberra my partner and I decided to visit the National Art Gallery. Initially it was a good experience, we got a free park under the Gallery. But when we arrived at the front of the Gallery we found three staff in grim suits talking amongst themselves - as though we weren't present. So we... More
