Strikingly beautiful architecture in a most beautiful setting.... Excellent welcome at reception ... Followed by a most erudite yet light hearted short tour .... Heartily recommended ....just right for a background introduction....quite outstanding tour by Sam. There is traditional and very modern... The modern extending the boundaries of portraiture.... An excellent range... We took a break for lunch in what... More

We have seen a few exhibitions here now and marvel at the diversity of them. A wonderful experience every time, have never been disappointed.

Nice cafe food including gourmet pies and salads. Get an outside table to gaze out across the High Court lawn and the lake.

I overhead somebody as we walked around commenting on the number of paintings of people here, ummm, yes, it is a PORTRAIT gallery. If you are looking for landscapes, Old Masters or Blue Poles wander just across the road to the National Gallery of Australia! Having gotten that off my chest .... The building is modern and fresh - a... More

I found the Portrait Gallery my cup of tea, just wonderful and many people that I recognised. Particularly liked the one of Dame Nancy Buttfield a woman well ahead of her time and a true leader. Many others were fabulous and well done. Allow at least 2 hours.

I had been forewarned that the sculptures were immense in size and detail but I was astonished to the complexity and the craftsmanship that must have gone into creating and finishing their pieces I was astonished.

The building is modern and ideally suited to display portraits both painted and photographic. Would have liked more of Australia's sporting Heroes.

Well I know its all about your likes and dislikes but there were quite a few painting that I did not like. Many that I loved. Debra Mailman's portrait was definitely my favourite. Nice to see the portrait of Captain Cook what I remember from school Social Studies lessons. Worth a visit, its free to enter and cool inside.
