It took me many years to finally get to the gallery, but better late than not at all! I was surrounded by a wonderful mix of different portrait mediums, many familiar to me from news and other publicised events. Absolutely free entry, I was exhausted trying to read details about the many many offerings - all fabulously interesting. I didn't... More

This beautiful building is itself a joy to explore, inside and out. The portraits of all types show the sensitive faces of remarkable people, some long dead, who have lived inspiring lives and are true models for us mediocre folk. The staff are helpful and patient.

I really enjoyed wondering around the gallery. I wish I visited the portraits when displayed at old parliament house. This building is in a good location as well....

I found this place interesting as I thought it never existed. Not having an interest in art, portraits are something that I understand. You have access to a gift shop. Interesting. On the day I saw portraits and the Archebald prize.

We were attracted to the NPG by the architecture of the building and we were not disappointed. What great spaces. Staff were very helpful. But we were somewhat disappointed in the collection. Hopefully the Gallery will be able to afford to buy some great portraits in the future.

I love this place, such interesting portraits with interesting styles of expression by their artists. The coffee shop serves great food also and the gift shop has some top books. Must go!

I am not really an art gallery person but as an old-time photographer I find the gallery is my kind of place. The Gallery accepts criticism of the judges decision in awarding competition placings and one can computer enter one's own choices. Standards are high, pay a visit then enjoy the delights of their popular cafe

The National Portrait Gallery is one of the best cultural institutions that Canberra has to offer. The permanent collection is fascinating, even after numerous visitations. The tours are very professionally led, and the seasonal exhibitions are great value for money. I particularly enjoyed the Avedon collection that was around recently. The building itself is beautiful and very centrally located in... More

A place full of people, their faces staring at you as if you just disturbed them, or maybe wondering why they are locked inside some rectangular frame. I swear I heard some of them saying "keep your hands away from me'. Might know some of them or none, (portrays are from Australian history fiigures or Big Families) but they are... More
