I love the new National Portrait Gallery. Its halls are light and airy. Its portraits are well laid out and a pleasure to see. I particularly loved the portrait of award-winning artist Ivy Shore, by award-winning artist Graeme Inson, which has just been acquired and is on display near Inson's portrait of Gough Whitlam. Inson carried this portrait of Ivy... More

Really enjoyed the National Portrait Gallery, another amazing building to be admired before entering the Gallery. The Portrait Gallery displays portraits of those who shaped Australian society and culture - both historic and more contemporary. Whilst taking in the portraits you can read about the subjects and their contribution to Australian society - political leaders, sporting heroes, judges, humanitarians, explorers,... More

This gallery stands beside the larger National Gallery of Aust, however it is a wonderful place to visit with open, airy galleries and easy access. The various portraits are wonderful and need I say that the eyes follow you around the gallery as most of the portraits a so life like and reflect the people who have made Australia what... More

FREE entry, nice gallery, good cafe. Spent about 30 minutes touring the gallery nice to get up close to the pictures. Cafe is expensive but with free entry I guess they have to make money some how.

We only did the free entry exhibits, but they were very interesting. Lots of diverse paintings and photographs dating from 1600s to present day. A good way to fill an hour or two with a pleasant cafe with a good selection of drinks and sandwiches available.

A wonderful gallery which is all about the faces not about the artist (the artists are amazing as well). An interesting walk through the faces that have shaped Australia in modern and historic times. The café had some nice food also. I had about 1.5 hours which was not quite enough time.

I love visiting the National Portrait Gallery. It has a wonderful permanent collection of great Australians, but the visiting exhibitions are really great, so different. It is free for the permanent collection a small charge for travelling exhibitions

This is the 3rd visit and its better and better each time. So much thought and planning has gone into the exhibitions. You could spend hours just roaming around. It truly is a must when visiting Canberra , Not to be missed

This is a great gallery to visit anytime. Always an interesting exhibition to see and a gorgeous space to walk around in or just sit. Also lovely sitting on the verandah and having coffee or browsing in the shop which sells lots of fabulous things - great inspiration for presents and some wonderful books. My kids also love the place.... More
