Highlight was Ned Kelly's death mask. Interesting portraits of various Australians the well known and not so well known. The gift shop has some great Australian gifts for sale.

A great exhibition - skillful and haunting images. Take the time to look at the other exhibitions and the Portrait Gallery collection - you wont be disappointed. I was blown away with the portrait of Deborah by artist Evert Ploeg painted in oils on an old jute wool bale complete with the woolclasser's stencil stamp.

The National Portrait Gallery is a relatively new building, and has excellent rooms, with the portraits well displayed. The Gallery is all on the ground floor level, so stairs/lifts not an issue. This was my third visit, and I wish they had not removed some of the portraits I was looking forward to seeing again, but that is of course... More

A wonderful display of many familiar Australian faces and characters. The portraits are displayed in such a way that the walls are uncluttered and each portrait stands alone so that the artist's work can be appreciated. We are so glad that we added this gallery to our list of must sees.

The portraits are of different media :some large paintings , some small photographs. I especially loved the portrait of Deborah Mailman, the actor. We were fortunate to see the short-listed judges choices for the National Photographic portrait competition, including the runner up, and the winner.A big variety of work there.

Went to see the James Turrell show, just sublime. I was given a discounted ticket as a member of the AGNSW, but the restaurant wouldn't acknowledge this. Some consistency would be good

This is a great gallery and space. The best exhibit for us was the incredible tapestry of Dame Elizabeth Murdoch. What a work of art! You cannot believe that this is a tapestry. We had the head curator guide us around the gallery and point out her favourite pieces to us as well and the winner of the National Photographic... More
