We live in The Hague and decided to visit Kasteel de Haar on Wednesday 27th May as a day out for our 6 and 4 year olds. The castle itself is a magical late 19th century architectural confection which out-Disney's Disney and had our 6 year old girl dreaming of being a princess, at least looking at it from the... More

Wife and I came on a lonely Monday afternoon during our road trip thru the Netherlands. We had a feeling like we had the whole garden and view of the castle for ourselves. Brilliant place. Well worth the admission + dogs are allowed for free (on the leash ofc)!

We live near Utrecht central, so it was about a 17 km bike ride to the castle. And another 17 km back. The castle is beautiful and it is surrounded by nature. There are animals like lambs and cows at the side of the road while cycling into the castle. Since we have the museum card we joined the tour... More

Note: an English audio tour is available. We live nearby and visit the castle once or twice a year. The staff is always friendly, helpful and very nice towards our children. Well managed and run. One of the largest and nicest castles in the Netherlands. (You will like castle "het Loo" too when you like to visit castles), which is... More

This castle is just stunning and so beautifully restored. The tour is great, but you are not allowed to take pictures (not even without flash) which is such a shame. We also had a look around in the Chatelet, which was OK, but did not add a lot to what we had already seen. The gardens are also beautiful especially... More

See how the rich lived in luxury at this wonderful castle. It is one of the attractions covered by the Museumkart. Restored from a ruin in the 19th century by the Van Zuylen baron (using his rich wife's money, she was a Rothschild), it is a showcase for how the wealthy lived. No expense was spared, the master architect Cuypers... More

Terrific castle and beautiful quiet garden where you can wander around for about one hour. We skipped the inside and still loved the trip. It does need to be sunny to really enjoy it. Forget the catering and go to the nearby town for lunch.

Castle De Haar was constructed between 1892 and 1912 on the site of an older, ruined stronghold. Architect Pierre Cuypers opted for a neo gothic style but equipped the edifice with the most advanced comfort of those days. The interior of the castle can only be admired during a guided tour lasting about one hour. Be aware that tour topics... More

The outside is somenthing of a fairytale. The castle is beautiful, well maintained and with gardens beautiful even with snow. My kids had a lot of fun trying to find their way inside the maze. On the down side, no tours available in English and even the ones in dutch were sold out early in the moring when we arrived,... More

We were visiting "De Haar" on a winters day, for a "fairytale-tour". Taking a tour is the only way to see the inside of the castle. Tours are not suitable for people that have difficulties walking. Before or after such a tour you can walk the gardens or have something to eat or drink. Taking pictures is not allowed inside,... More
