We have been visiting this establishment - i would no longer refer to it s a pub - for over twenty years and am sorry to say that after last night's visit am unlikely to be returning. Historically this has always been a wonderful place to go to to enjoy a relaxed drink/bar meal (occasionally a slightly more formal meal... More

I've been going to the Chequers since the late 70s. I've seen it go through several management changes some fantastic, some awful. The current management have done their best to destroy the pub side of this much loved Inn. It may work as a restaurant, the people who run it are after all restauranteurs so they should know what they're... More

We have now been to this lovely Pub twice in two weeks. A truly wonderful find by friends! Superb atmosphere, wonderful food and excellent service. It will become a regular haunt from now on!

Maybe I shouldn't write this review - as it is a hidden gem. The food was fantastic - five of us all had great food. The manager was charming. The countryside you have to drive through was gorgeous. ten out of ten

We were there, table for four just prior to Xmas. The gentlemen serving us was very friendly, food was excellent and we were last to leave at 1700hrs having started lunch at 1400hrs. Having read lots of other reviews on here and spoken to a friend (I recommended it) first words out of his mouth were, great food and location,... More

After reading reviews prior to making our booking, and visiting the Chequers for lunch on Saturday I did question booking after reading negative reviews of the landlady. Despite the lovely setting, and delicious food, the reviews on her certainly weren't wrong. A warm welcome cost nothing, hello or a smile we certainly didn't get, she then went on to shout... More

Went for Sunday lunch; food excellent but had to ask 3 times for the excessively loud and repetitive Spanish flamenco music to be turned down; it was the same music played for 2 1/2 hours! The landlady (I guess) was boot faced and terse; when asked for the beef to be medium rare she replied "it's all medium"! No discussion,... More

Returning here for a pre-christmas meal with friends, after experiencing such wonderful food and service last December. We were not disappointed at all. The range of fish dishes alongside the standards, is wonderful for fishl-overs. I am one. Our food, from the different starters chosen, through the mains and the puds were superb. The table service was friendly and efficient.... More

How disappointing to have our order taken by a lady who is not happy in her career. It cost,s nothing to say "good evening or hello to customer,s.It is not difficult to smile; it not only makes diner,s happy but could also lift the landlady,s spirits and make the job easier .At least try and if it doesn,t work go...
