Four of us had lunch here on 5th July to celebrate a family birthday and the initial impression of the inn was favourable though from the outset the approach of the staff including the landlady was not up to scratch. The food was good though not outstanding but the service was inconsistent and inattentive - clearly better training is required... More

Visited this Public House on Saturday 28th June, looked very nice from the outside and the menue looked excellent. My cousin who had booked the table was told this is your table which was in the bar and she said I have asked for a table in the restaurant, the pub in fact had rang and confirmed this the very... Four of us visited for dinner on Saturday and were very pleased to see the exterior of the pub which was delightful and we noticed blankets provided outside... always a nice touch. Inside - very pretty and well decorated, nice clean tablecloths and a busy atmosphere, even at 6pm. We were seated by a lady who was not particularly forthcoming,... More

Food decidedly average gas overly pricey for a pub. Landlady frosty and abrupt. It was a cool eve and we requested the door which we were seated opposite be closed... They offered to close the rear door which did nothing for the temperature. Food arrived promptly but was bland and certainly not worthy of the pretentious descriptions and price tags.... More

The Chequers pub itself is very pleasant - very nice outdoor space at the front shaded by plants and a bar and restaurant area inside. Fairly formal setting with white table cloths etc, so would work for a special occasion but is still reasonably relaxed. The food was really excellent. The menu is mostly fish but with sufficient other choices.... More

I have now visited the Chequer in Well under it's new ownership several times and have to share my views on this stunning restaurant. I first found this pub , which it was years ago, by accident. We drove through charming countryside to see a quaint building adorned with stunning hanging baskets and a fascinating grapevine to sit under in... More

Atmospheric old pub serving above average quality food. Not cheap but decent value. Mid week lunch parking OK, but could see a problem at other times.

A successful landlord, but also a greedy one. I feel so sorry for the local inhabitants of Well who are being squeezed by the uncontrolled parking all over the hamlet. Local landowner forbids the use of 'his' car park opposite, unless The Chequers pay a hefty fee, but still frequents the pub and thinks he owns the place. With the... More

Ate here on Saturday 15 March 14. I did not realise at the time that the pub was now run by the Vienna Farnham owners. Service very sporadic, started off with only one menu between four. I guess the lady she who took our order was the owner who was abrupt to the point of rudeness, I nearly got up... More

That's it I'm afraid. We have persevered for years with the Vienna and now chequers. The food is always faultless which is why we have returned many times but feeling like an inconvenience to the owners especially the landlady has now worn a little thin. The eating out experience is about the food AND service combined so they need to... More
