Every exquisite glass of Obsidian speaks of this unique terroir, encapsulating not only the character of the weathered soils at Onetangi, home to Obsidian's vineyard on Waiheke Island, but the coastal beauty of the surrounding environment.Tucked away in an amphitheatre setting amongst the vines, Obsidian offers tastings in a relaxed and friendly environment. The cellar door is situated next to a wetland area and vines. Al fresco tastings are often held under the pergola. You are welcome to bring your own picnic and enjoy the peaceful setting at Obsidian. Our friendly cellar door staff will take you through a range of Obsidian Reserve & Non-Reserve wines. Open Saturday & Sunday 11am to 4pm Winter months. « less

We were at markets on Saturday and a ute was sitting outside coffee shop while owner getting coffee. It had a couple of bins of grapes and we got talking to guy and he explained about them and gave us some bunches of grapes to try. Yummy. The ute had Obsidian on side so thought we would make that a... More

We took a lovely walk over the hill to Obsidian from Te Motu Vineyard (and from Stoney Ridge before that) and arrived just as a small tour was leaving. We had Lyn all to ourselves for a while before others showed up and her passion about Obsidian was the icing on the cake. She was happy to tell us all... More

We hired bikes and rode them around Waiheke for the day. First stop was Obsidian and we spent way longer here than planned - it definitely ended up being our favourite. We did the tasting which included three whites and three reds. We were greeted by a woman who works there but unfortunately I can't remember her name. Our time... More

Always welcome and friendly atmosphere, Good wines produced across the range and the outdoor tasting makes it for a good interlude when tripping around the Island. I have never left there without at least one bottle of wine!!!

We had a lovely experience at Obsidian. Being spoilt at home living between some of Victoria's best wineries we felt that Obsidian offered everything we look for. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, a beautiful location and of course delicious wines! What we liked most was that it was the only winery on Waiheke that we visited that offered a credit of our... More

A great vineyard to visit and taste their wines. Lovely friendly and helpful staff. The walk to the three other neighbouring vineyards through the actual vineyards is really worth doing and very scenic.

Set in a lovely little amphitheatre, it is lovely to be there. Friendly, relaxed and some lovely wines with cheese/nuts for nibbles. Beautiful Montepulciano!! a must to try! Very helpful staff (Lyn), and over all a lovely experience,,,,, far nicer than the big commercial wineries.

I went to Waiheke last weekend with my boyfriend and friends. We did the wine testing and I told the ladie that I don't drink red wine, just white. She offerd me very generously just try a bit of the whites ( 2 wines) and she would charge for the testing. I accept. When we finish she suggest us to... More

We are disappointed to hear of your experience at Obsidian cellar door, as we are committed to providing a great wine tasting experience to all visitors. Our policy is not to charge for a full tasting (which includes 5 wines) if a customer only wishes to taste 1 or 2 of our wines. We are unsure as to why you... More
