Owner description: Obsidian wines are the true embodiment of their place of origin. Every exquisite glass of Obsidian speaks of this unique terroir, encapsulating not only the character of the weathered soils at Onetangi, home to Obsidian's vineyard on Waiheke Island, but the coastal beauty of the surrounding environment.Tucked away in an amphitheatre setting amongst the vines, Obsidian offers tastings in a relaxed and friendly environment. The cellar door is situated next to a wetland area and vines. Al fresco tastings are often held under the pergola. You are welcome to bring your own picnic and enjoy the peaceful setting at Obsidian. Our friendly cellar door staff will take you through a range of Obsidian Reserve & Non-Reserve wines. Open Saturday & Sunday 11am to 4pm Winter months.

I was traveling with a Master of Wine student looking at tbe famous wines on Waiheke Island. I am a vineyard owner myself, so based on reputation we were very excited to try these famous wines. Unfortunately the experience was generally disappointing most of the wines we looked at were clearly showing oxidative notes suggesting a lack of attention to... More

Lovely vineyard with cellar door sales and tastings. Beautiful wines! If you like white wine the Reserve Chardonnay is very nice and the reds are stunning too! Don't miss out on this one!

We had a lovely tasting at the winery, served by the winemaker who was very very generous with his time and knowledge. They brought the dog a water bowl and something comfy to lie down on, and if they had a restaurant we would have stayed for lunch and made an afternoon of it.

Took some American friends around vineyards. This was the worst service. Very grumpy man who did not offer us what was on offer, not the Pinot Gris or the Reserve Syrah until asked (& these were the best) yet they offered these to others. Perhaps because we were a larger group they couldn't cope or were just overheated given a... More

Three of us arrived today for wine tasting, managed to taste a good variety of wines. The Montepulciano was absolutely awesome.

We were at markets on Saturday and a ute was sitting outside coffee shop while owner getting coffee. It had a couple of bins of grapes and we got talking to guy and he explained about them and gave us some bunches of grapes to try. Yummy. The ute had Obsidian on side so thought we would make that a... More

We took a lovely walk over the hill to Obsidian from Te Motu Vineyard (and from Stoney Ridge before that) and arrived just as a small tour was leaving. We had Lyn all to ourselves for a while before others showed up and her passion about Obsidian was the icing on the cake. She was happy to tell us all... More

We hired bikes and rode them around Waiheke for the day. First stop was Obsidian and we spent way longer here than planned - it definitely ended up being our favourite. We did the tasting which included three whites and three reds. We were greeted by a woman who works there but unfortunately I can't remember her name. Our time... More

Always welcome and friendly atmosphere, Good wines produced across the range and the outdoor tasting makes it for a good interlude when tripping around the Island. I have never left there without at least one bottle of wine!!!
