Obsidian wines are the true embodiment of their place of origin. Every exquisite glass of Obsidian speaks of this unique terroir, encapsulating not only the character of the weathered soils at Onetangi, home to Obsidian's vineyard on Waiheke Island, but the coastal beauty of the surrounding environment.Tucked away in an amphitheatre setting amongst the vines, Obsidian offers wine tastings in a relaxed and friendly environment. Our knowledgeable cellar door staff will take you through a range of Obsidian Reserve & Non-Reserve wines. All are available to purchase in the shop. Summer open 7 days 11am - 5pm

Good afternoon wine stop.

Just finished a dip in Palm beach so deserved a glass or 2. It was 4 pm and trusty Google indicated this was one of the local wineries that stayed open to 5. Nice environment... read more

Just finished a dip in Palm beach so deserved a glass or 2. It was 4 pm and trusty Google indicated this was one of the local wineries that stayed open to 5. Nice environment, out of the rain, it was $ 10 for 5 tastings but the nice fellow kept filling the glasses so in the end I think... More

We visited many of the vineyards of Waiheke on an intensive wine tasting day using the Hopper bus to nip between venues, and found Obsidian to be our favourite. They grow all the grapes for their wines on their Waiheke vineyard, whereas many of the other vineyards are using grapes from other areas, mainly Marlborough, in order to appeal to... More

A tucked-away spot in the middle of the vines with a great selection of wine and knowledgable, passionate staff. There's no food, no fancy trimmings, just good ol' fashioned wine tasting and conversation. Obsidian knows what it's doing, and it's doing it very well indeed. Our favourite during a thirty degree afternoon in January was the rose. Sure - it's... More

I am so glad that our tour guide suggested Obsidian for our visit! We were traveling with our children (a teen and nine-year old) and they were fantastic with all of us. The wines are wonderful (LOVED the Montepulciano) and our son got a really great experience at his first tasting. They offered our daughter a book about Vineyard dogs... More

Our experience at Obsidian was just wonderful! A lovely lady (I forgot to ask for the name) took her time to give us the best tasting experience we had in NZ. She did not only make us feel very welcome, she also considered our individual preferences to present us the wine that we would like best. The wines were all... More

You HAVE to try Obsidian wines. They are the best on Waiheke. This may be partially attributed to the type of grapes planted which obviously suit the island climate and conditions perfectly. The reds are equal to any great Australian or European reds. Well done Obsidean. We'll be back.

We really stumbled upon this vineyard on our way to another one on the wine map. On first impressions I felt no let's keep going. It is very rustic. Yet once inside it was rustic yes and basic yes but very real. The hosts are so warm and knowledgeable. We leaned on a barrel and sampled with a couple from... More
