We've travelled South in the windy breathtaking HWY 1, and because the beach in the Pfeiffer State Park in Big Sur was closed due to the recent fire, we were advised to continue South. By Big Lafer Canyon we encountered a most unusual structure consisting of two gigantic barrels with windows and doors and a sign: Coast Gallery and Cafe.... More

Unfriendly man in store, was out of food except candy bars and drinks. Restaurant was closed during the winter break season, to reopen on 12/23 and we were there 12/21. Restrooms were filthy. Great view. Didn't bother with the gallery and gift shop which may have been closed anyways, because the place was so filthy.

We found ourselves lingering and loitering at stops along the way, the scenery is second to none. Bucket list stuff...

A lovely stop for lunch. We split a $16 chicken salad wrap, bag of chips and both ordered lemonades. The wrap is huge in my opinion so unless you are starving splitting it is a good idea. We sat out on the deck overlooking the ocean and really enjoyed ourselves. The stop was nice, the art is beautiful and the... More

Beautiful art pieces! Definitely, prices for some of the items were on the high end of the spectrum, but nonetheless the gallery is amazing. It's original art work and a great stop to make. My friends and I, can not comment on the food as we had none, but the views from the cafe were lovely as well. Also, there... More

We stopped for lunch at the cafe at the Coast Gallery. We were shocked at how rude the woman at the register was, she seemed to really hate the customers. The food was poor and was very overpriced for the quality. The view is nice but I would never eat there again.

Great place to stop to eat and/or shop! The gallery has lots of beautiful art – there are multiple stories and buildings so be sure to go through all of them. The café has a great outdoor patio that is sheltered from the wind and has a nice view of the ocean. The food was outstanding. We both had the... More

All the local artists have things on display. Go upstairs first and get a coffee. They aren't the friendliest but they are competing with the great view for admiration.

Compared to the other shopping opportunities at the Big Sur this gallery is a must see. Really special artists have created some beautiful art treasures for visitors to appreciate. Somewhat expensive but a treat for art lovers. Large gallery but divided nicely with a small snack bar area.
