We enjoyed a couple hikes in this park. The coastal redwoods were a magnificent sight. The waterfall hike was a little disappointing. It was great exercise, but the Julia Pfeiffer Falls were much nicer and much shorter of a hike. If pressed for time, skip the hike to the falls.

This stretch of coast is a marvel of the world. Hike into the redwoods, camp by a stream, be mesmerized by the crashing waves, the rocky coast. It will soothe your heart.

How can you find something wrong with Big Sur? Great place for family picnics, hiking and games. It's a bit of a drive south from Monterey but that is part of the fun. Bring extra water if you are going hiking. It can actually get warm and hikers can overheat. Arrive early in the day as the barbecue areas can... More

Parking was a litte chaotic here, the signposts are non-existent. But the walks are nice. It's a steep uphill walk to both the valley view and the waterfall, take plenty of water.

If you cannot get up to the Redwood National Forest a little higher up the coast, then this is the 2nd best thing close to heaven for coastal redwoods.

I love Pfeiffer, my family has been going there at least once a year since before I was born, over 30 years ago! If you would have asked me 10 years ago, I would have rated it 5 instead of 4. It has become more and more popular through the years, and now with site specific reservations, you have to... More

We went to the Pfeiffer Day Use Beach at sunset and it was unbelievable. The sun peeked through this giant rocks on the beach and I'm sure at some point if the Mayan's had been here, they would have come up with a calendar based on the sun's position relative to these rocks. Very cool sunset spot and not far... More

I live in the flatlands in Louisiana. So when I travel, it is hard to hike uphill because my legs are just not in shape. This was least my favorite spot around Big Sur.

We shared a site with some friends and really enjoyed our time. #176 was great because it was near the swimming hole and also near the bathrooms but didn't have another campsite right beside it. We did have a visit from a small skunk and some pesky squirrels, but no real issues. We plan to come back!

We recently returned from 4 nights camping at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. We were able to add an extra day and come a day sooner than expected. As usual, the campgrounds are well-maintained, gorgeous and relaxing. The river wasn't running quite as much as it was at this same time last year, but we still saw people inner tubing... More
