We visited towards the end of high-season so the lake had receded quite a bit. Fountain at the pier entrance was full of very dirty water and the sculptures had some type of netting covering them -- not sure what that was about. Very colorful fishing boats were strung along the pier. I'm not certain what type of fish is... More

Strolled down the Chapala Malecon for about an hour and enjoyed it immensely. As it was a weekday, there were no crowds, which made it very pleasant. The views of the lake, fishing boats and mountains were splendid as I made my way under the shade of the ubiquitous palms planted along the promenade. A must-do when in the area.

We were fortunate to stay in El Pequeno Hotel, just a block away from the malecon--a great place to stroll at almost any hour and watch people and clouds. Weekends are busy with all the visitors from Guadalajara, families and lovers chatting and slowly ambulating, the many stalls with their gee-gaws, the skateboarders showing off their stuff. It was the... More

We spent a day in Chapala and most of it was walking the promenade a the near by area. There are many vendors and restaurants. We took a lot of photos of the boats , lake , mountains. Relaxed with and ice cream cone on one of the branches. Rely loved the mural painted on the ceiling of the little... More

What a great way to relax and breathe deeply after a hectic day or week. Feel the breeze on you body and through your hair. You can sit awhile and space out with the natural view of the lake and mountains. There is a great energy from the lake. There are many restaurants along the malecón. Some days you can... More

Permanent market moved away from the shoreline. Very fine job at renewing the look of the malecón (Lake Chapala shoreline walkway) completed for the recent Pan-Am games in nearby Guadalajara (2010). The Spirit of the Lake island and statue were built out in the lake which unfortunately receded so much that the "island" is now reachable on foot.

Fairly recently re-invigorated, the Chapala Malecon is a great place to saunter, realx and people-watch, browse market stands with a huge variety of items on offer, soak up a little atmosphere. There's a small harbour to a boat ride on the vast lake. Well worth the visit, it's also a good spot from which to begin exploring the rest of... More

The Guadalajaran families come to Chapala for the weekend to get away from the big city and fill up the Malecon. Always lots to see, do and buy on the weekend.

What a great experience, strolling the malecon that extends intermittently from Chapala to Ajijic and further on to Jocotepec, Mexico. It's reminiscent of bygone days when the families have their picnics, children are chasing balloons and playing various kid games, icecream vendors pushing their carts offering tasty flavors, souvenir vendors are offering their wares....much like the joyous times of 50...
