Was here in May, Shymbulak is a great place for hiding from city heat. Main entertainment area is around 2800 m high. Medeo skating arena is also point of attraction here.

I was in Almaty for business and had one afternoon off. I am happy to use it for a trip to the mountains, needed some fresh air and sun. Unfortunatelly it was in April so there was not much snow left. The mountains are amazing but the skiing area seemed very small to me. I had my lunch at the... More

New, expensive, convenient. It takes 30 minutes (without traffic) to get here from Almaty by car. From mountain skate ring MEDEO, there is a air train that takes you in 5 minutes to the ski resort, which was open this year up to mid April.

Nice place to enjoy some fresh air, snow and sun! Convenient located, can be reached from the center by taxi or bus. Ski resort is rather small, but ok for 1 day of fun.

I was in Almaty Kazakhstan for business purposes and on the weekend decided to go to the ski hill... Less than 30 minutes away from city center. A nice hill with very few people... You never have to wait! The hill is a good size but lack a bit of expert trails. It cost me less then 150$ for the... More

This ski resort just 20 minutes from Almaty has great slopes and good vertical drop (approx. 2200 - 3200m), even if the overall area is not very large. If you are up a morning after a decent snow fall the powder skiing can be exceptional, also compared with the Alps or North America. However the service levels are poor, especially... More

It is amazing how quick it is to reach. Rather small resort but well maintained. In summer good to start hiking tours from either of the stations. So check it out.

This place is amazing for hiking. Make sure to leave early in the morning from Almaty because otherwise you will be stuck in a way overpriced hotel. Hiken is an easy to find route to to the meteo station or onwards op to the lake. Guide is not needed an camping is free of charge,

We took the cable car up to the restaurant. The views are amazing and so was the experience at the first stop where we ate a traditional lunch. Live music, great food and interesting things like having your picture taken with a Golden Eagle.

Catch a gypsy cab up to Medeu and buy a ticket for the whole way up to the Talgar glacier. Stunning. Have someone take a photo of you with a golden eagle on your arm!
