There are only 27 of these rare stave churches left in Norway so I was delighted to come and look round this one as part of an organised coach trip to western Norway. In the middle of Røldal. A goal for pilgrims in july - the end of a weeks pilgrimage. Nice wall paintings.

There is a plenty of Stave churches in Norway. This one is not nice, but not exceptionally big, old nor nice. It is truly average place, but still a nice one, so if you drive near Roldal, you probably should stop and pay a visit. The fee was around 30 NOK.

There are about a little bit less then 30 stave churches left in Norway, one more impressive then the other one...... I have seen a few of them and the one in Røldal is in my opinion not very spectacular regarding the looks, architecture, woodcarving, size. Go visit it if you are in the area, but don't plan your whole... More
