We were there on the 8th Sept 2014 for the celebrations of Victory day and it was very festive. The cathedral was covered in lights, there was music and food. Nice.

Our trip to Malta coinsided with the Islands famous Festa's. These religous festivals are great and they light up all the churches and have fireworks night and day (which obviously cannot be seen?!!) if you go in the church you need to be suitably dressed and respectful for ladies shoulders covered and skirts past the knee or trousers, a lot... The church is beautiful. It stands on the hill, so You can see nice view of Mellieha city and Mellieha bay. Depending on where you are staying a walk up to the church is a must do. Try to do it when the sun is not at its highest as it does get hot. Once you get to the church enjoy the experience and then off for a couple of cold beers.

apparently still not complete! The church was lit up for the festival and was in pristine condition. Outside, children played around the fountain and inside the cool of the church was sanctuary from the evening heat!

We were all quite astonished to find this beautiful, regal, imposing church in a fairly quiet and tranquil town in the more rural north of the island.Wow!Any city would be lucky to have it,so Mellieha must be justly proud of this wonderful place of worship.Plenty of scope in the surrounding square to take photos of the incredible architecture, and fantastic views looking down...
