If going on a cruise, book your train tickets through the cruise line, or else the train will be sold out. This journey climbs 3,000 feet into complete snow covered terrain and stops at a mountain chalet for waffles , jam and cream ,and coffee or tea. You have to wait there about an hour for the train to return... More

Flam was our first stop on a Fjords cruise. We were off the ship as soon as possible and the jostling began, the ticket office was about 350 metres away which turned into a race. We were fortunate to be at the front of the queue and get into the ticket office first. The price for the ticket was roughly... More

The rail trip from Flam to Myrdal takes you through magnificent scenery with a video commentary annoucing points on the route etc. The most incredible feat of engineering is the 180 degree tunnel and the ruling gradient which requires the power of 2 locomotives. Plenty has been said about the scenic features so i do not propose to run through... More

We visited the Flam Railway in a cruiseship stopover and decided to explore Flam with the famous train. It was a big disappointment full of drawbacks: - you can't book tickets in advance unless you are a group of 10 or more (we were 7 people). Our cruise stopped in Flam at 8 am and dozens of people literally rushed... More

We drove up to Flåm and dreaded that it would be very crowded and maybe difficult to get train tickets. We were wrong. There were plenty of parking places (no charge) , and when we came to the ticket booth there were no line at all. The tickets were expensive. We were 2 adults and one child, so the cheapest... More

The flam railway from Myrdal to Flam is the most wonderful train experience that I have had to date. This very old and modernised rail is very well maintained and passes through a very picturesque area. It takes 60 minutes and you wish you could do it again and again. The valleys and waterfalls are breathtaking .The area around Flam station... More

Have been on much better in Switzerland to be honest. However the brew pub at the end of the line saved the day. Don't get me wrong its not bad just not brilliant, others may disagree as it would not do if we all liked the same stuff.

We travelled via a P&O cruise to Flam. We went in spring and the weather was snowy and the valley was quite bare. Although I can imagine the scenery would be better with a green lush valley and sunshine, the views from the train weren't particularly impressive and didn't live up to our expectations. Please don't think you get to... More
