Most tours are in Dutch but if they know you are English they will tell you about the things you are looking at. There is literature anyway and you can work it out quite easily. The caves are fascinating especially the church and the views from the castle are also worth the climb up there.

This was one of the best castle ruins that we experienced on our trip to Europe. Very well maintained grounds and very informative. I am so glad we had the chance to experience it.

Bit expensive to go inside the castle but great views on the outside with an open terrace overlooking the town

We did a day trip to Valkenburg and visited the Christmas Market. Very interesting a different from everywhere else since the market is in the cave. My wife now has a favorite Christmat Hobby Horse decoration as a result of the trip. Happy Wife, Happy Life. Cheers

Okay, coalmining didn’t happen in Valkenburg but in the near area. Going down with a real coalminers elevator made you realise what a trip these brave men made every day. The noise and the heat were all there so we know now how hard this line of work is. The guided tour was very educational and informative.

Caves were a real surprise as they are full or charcoal drawings - real works of art. 12 centigrade inside - so not too cold and not the dripping damp you normally get in caves

It was very special; Christmas market in a cave under the castle ruins. We spend 3 hours to see everything. And the weather doesn't matter, we are in a cave. It was very cosy

the many Christmas markets throughout Europe are all in the open air, this is unique as it takes place in the Velvet Cave under the Castle Ruins. It takes a good 1 1/2 to 2 hours to walk around the route visiting the various stalls or stopping for some refreshment half way around. Also every year they have tableaus with... More

It is just a pile of what used to be so it's not magical. But the view from the top of the hill is really nice. We were travelling with a stroller and young child so it wasn't completely accessible. The grot was a great tour though! I would highly recommend taking that tour! The guide had a lot of... More
