I went with a school party of 39 pupils. The tour guide is fantastic and was really good with the pupils. The group was divided into two and we all got through within the hour. It wasnt a damp cave,12c throughout. You may ferl the need for a light coat. Would visit again.

If you like castle ruins and interesting sights, the castle ruins and velvet cave in Valkenburg may be of interest to you. As part of our trip through Europe, we specifically went to the Limburg province in The Netherlands to originally go see the Maastricht caves. We arrived too late for the Maastricht cave tour. Since we were staying in... More

Enjoyed the guided tour of the caves even though it was in Dutch. A fact sheet helped. The Castle was a good excersise provider. Cafe clean. Loved sitting outside the view of Valkenburg is worth the climb.

We went to the caves during their Christmas Market and had a fantastic time. It was warmer in the caves than it was outside so that was nice for all of us. If you see all the caves it will take you a long time so plan for a whole day.

We visited the caves first and subsequently the castle ruins - 3 hours is more than enough time. Both aspects were interesting, but the cave visit is guided and only in Dutch. We were provided with information sheets (pretty hard to read in a cave!) but still couldn't glean all the information on offer. Nevertheless, there are varied aspects to... More

The Castle Ruins are fantastic. Its incredible to think of what this must have looked like prior to being blown up in 1672 as there is still so much to see. We were able to purchase a little book in English to walk through the ruins, they also had signs along the way in both English and Dutch. However, getting... More

We did not think before we entered on this warm and sunny day, dressed in short and shirt. Well, once you are in the caves the temperature goes down to around 12Celcius and yes, that is cold. But it is also worth going, even when not dressed to the occasion. The caves are decorated with amazing paintings, the church is... More

We were lucky enough to visit on a warm sunny day so it made the trip all the better. Once you make it to the top you are rewarded with great views over the town. The ruins itself are interesting and are certainly worth a visit. At regular intervals information boards are posted with a short explanation on what you... More

Great views from the top and definitely worth the hike up. Interesting ruins to visit, windy up top so take a jacket to keep the cold out!

The walk up is very steep but well worth it. There is a little train that goes there to save the walk.
