Fantastic bridge. Imagine how long ago it was constructed, and how that happened. It was quiet the afternoon we visited, and you could almost imagine the Legionnaires marching across, and the chariots rumbling towards the Alcazaba. One of the longest Roman bridges that remain, I believe.

Incredible to think just how old the bridge is and to still be in such good condition. The views off the bridge (spot the huge fish around the first section) are lovely. I wonder how long the new bridge will last.

A wonderful sight from afar as it spans the river (ducks and all) and leads directly into the city center. Somewhat lengthy after a long day of walking if it is part of your return plan.

This is a good Roman bridge - I preferred this to the bridge in Salamanca. The bridge is longer and spans a really lovely river, and there is a nice river walk either side. Just next to this bridge is the Alcazar fort, and a piece of unearthed Roman street, so there is a lot to see in this immediate... More

Go early in the morning with the joggers, walkers and cyclists especially in July & August. There is no shade. It's an amazing 762m long and was built to connect Merida with Andalucía and Lisboa. The walk over is well worth it and halfway you get a stunning view of Santiago Calatrava's new road bridge, a feat of modern engineering.... More

Its hard to believe that a bridge this large still exists from Roman time. It is a wonderful walk across the river and it begins right next to other Roman ruins including the bath house, which uses the water from the river.

Worth the extra few minutes walk to see the bridge and the beautiful river. Nice to get some fresh air out there and look back at Mérida.

Reminds me of the one in Prague. Totally fantastic and if you visit the Alcazar you have a fantastic view back over the bridge from the battlements.

If in Mérida, this is another must-see and provides for a nice, relaxing stroll. Crossing the river along with the locals, if at sunset even better, is a way to relax and breathe Merida in.

After seeing the top sights (amphitheater, theater and Musee), if you have time do walk to the river to see the bridge. On your way you'll see remains of roman pavement, the temple, and arrive at the very well preserved bridge.
