A lovely preserved city, simply perfect to get lost in the meandering streets, visit beautiful churches, snap shots of the rolling hills beyond the city walls... or enjoy a drink in the main piazza and people-watch!

Walking in Cáceres is taking a trip through time. Recognized as a bi-millenial city, Cáceres was founded by the Romans in 34B.C. But the history of Cáceres goes back around 25,000 years. Its later history was plagued by battles between Christians and Moors for control of the city, and finally recovered in 1229. If you want to explore and feel... More

Probably one of the most beautiful old towns of Spain. There are many relevant places to visit, including one of my favorites places of the city: "El Aljibe".

The old town of Caceres is a very well preserved location, with fantastic palaces and beautiful narrow streets. Everyone feels like traveling to the past and at the same time the view feeds the eyes and the soul.

So easy to walk around this UNESCO site and look at the various buildings as they were in olden times. Plaza Mayor and all the bars and restaurants combined with the walls just make this an unique place.

Superlative example of medieval ghost town but arrived mid afternoon and TI was closed and could get NOTHING to eat until 8 pm. Got a map from hotel but nothing to shed light on any point of interest. Felt like we wandered around aimlessly and that our time could have been spent better elsewhere. Plaza Mayor comes alive 9ish which... More

We spent a few days wandering around the old town and is not surprising that it's a World Heritage Centre. Cobbled streets and squares asks stone churches all interspersed with ample eateries and drinking houses. Next time I come it won't be August though - just a tad warm at midday.

An absolutely delightful town, but note it gets incredibly hot in the height of summer. As well as the sights of the old town, it is a foody destination and has a couple of very well recommended restaurants as well as a number of superb tapas bars.

The walkig in the old town was very tiring for old folk in the heat of August. But lots of crenalated towers, and lots of bars and restaurants.

If you come during the city's Medieval Festival as we did, you will find street markets, lots of people in costumes, music and much of the old city, its wall and buildings will come to life. Check for the dates through tourism websites. In 2014 it was in November. At any time of the year, however, those buildings are still... More
