The "casco antiguo" or old district is a recognized world heritage site, and with reason. It's easily walked (so long as you're comfortable with cobblestones and some decent hills), and the sights are superb. The only issue is figuring out what's open when. Doing a few sweeps around the ciudad monumental across two or three times of day is probably... More

A compact historical old town with a wealth of museums, some a few euros and some free. The only problem will be time because there is so much to see. We sampled the military museum and the archaeological museum and both were very interesting, Plenty of interesting little eateries as well. Well worth a two day stop over on teh... More

La Ciudad Monumental de Cáceres (as well as Caceres itself) is worth a day of exploring. We visited in early January and therefore did not have to deal with daytrippers from other cities. Without the crowds of tourists, the Old Town had a much more medieval feel than it would have otherwise. The narrow streets and relatively untouched facades are... More

Amazing city in the west part of Spain. Must spend a day and book a tour to understand how the city became multicultural and what you can see in the city. Surprise you how many cultures were living together hundreds of years ago and how good the conditions are around the buildings.

The Convent at San Mateo augments its income selling delicious almond cookies and cupcakes; you put the money into a slot and the nun turns a circular shelf with the dessert so that you don't see her. Very old school, although we actually had the sister come out because we had such a large order!

A Unesco heritage city, beautiful well preserved town. Many historical buildings and well kept narrow streets. Many shops, cafes and good restaurants to choose from.

A beautifully preserved walled town. Multi-layered architecture showing all the history. Many great places to eat and drink. We were lucky to see it in early morning and late at night -deserted and atmospheric -but also enjoyed live music & good food so it could also be lively. Probably packed in the summer but we enjoyed it. Endless photo-ops! There... More
