The Monfrague national Park is one of the most beautiful areas of Spain, especially if you are a birdwatcher! Take the road up to the Castle (free when we were there)and you'll bbe rewarded by the sight of Griffon and Black Vultures flying ten feet above your head. There are many miradors (view points) along the roads, and parking spaces... More

We drove through the park stopping off at selected points to view the Griffon Vultures and were amazed at how close we were to the birds and how many we saw just from the viewpoints. The scenery all around was spectacular and there are lots of walking trails if you really want to get off the beaten track. Make sure... More

Three of us stayed in the chalets in Camping Monfrague which had a small kitchen, adequate bathroom, double room and a settee. This is a good site for tents and camper vans with a bar/restaurant, small shop and I think a pool. It was pretty busy when we were there. We got a special rate of 50 euros a night... More

There is nothing to dislike in this beautiful Park. Amazing scenery and wild life. The bird life is incredible ,and we wwere able to view nesting griffons egyptian vultures and storks. On this visit we did not see the otter but others did. The castle now has 2 new view points which is great, and the only `cafe ` area... More

Initial reaction when driving through was slight disappointment as it's not especially dramatic. But we walked the green and yellow trails and both had some of the loveliest walking I have done in Spain. The meadow flowers (in early May) we're stunning. Bird life plentiful. Lots of vultures. I'd recommend starting early as it was hot by eleven in May.

Whatever you want to do (view vultures or walk through the nice landscape of Monfragüe N.P.), it can be provided. Good information points (in Villarreal de San Carlos there are also 2 visitor centres with ample information of the area). For 3 walks through the N.P. you don´t need special authorization. Recommended.

This park is awesome! Plus, quite large. We have primarily done driving trips with stops and short walk-a-bouts. All types of wildlife and people to watch. Definitely worth getting off the beaten path to see. Look for the agriturismo style place to stay/eat.

Monfrague is something out of our imagination! A deserted nature park with great scenic routes full of panoramic places to enjoy and take photos. Go to the Castle up top and enjoy some of the most spectacular views and breed for inspiration but... on a sunny day!

We really enjoyed spending time in this great park for two consecutive days. The birding is wonderful especially the Vultures. Would have really enjoyed birding with a local guide. Really enjoyed the hiking trails. Only problem was that the two days fell on a long weekend so there were people everywhere. Found it difficult to find a quiet spot to... More
