Nice castle with great views from the Citadel

Castle is really nice, with unique atmosphere. But it's pity that not everything is accessible to visitor.

First it is a long visit with a Slovak speaking guide (the text in English is very short). The visit in itself was not very interesting. Most of the furniture is made of copies or from the 19th/20th centuries, etc. The castle looks good on photos from the outside as it is quite impressive but that's all.

Orava Hrad is a must see. The castle has a long interesting history and is in great condition. Some of the rooms are furnished and others are set up as a museum. There are lots of stairs to get right up to the top but nothing too taxing. The castle can only be entered as part of a guided tour.... More

We stopped here on our way from Zakopane to Wisla in Poland and wow wow and more wow. This castle is one of the best I have visited in Europe. The tour of the castle was very cheap and the guide was excellent. You just keep going up in the castle to you eventually reach the top. Put it on... More

When you are in the Orava area, this is a place you should visit. Entry fee is 5 EUR per adult, plus 1 EUR if you want to see the chapel - tour of it takes about 3 minutes, so you decide if it's worth it. Permission to take pictures costs extra, 3 EUR if I remember correct, however nobody... More

This wonderfully preserved castle is without doubt worth a visit if you are anywhere near the area. I'd seen it on-line and in photos but it still blew me away when we got there, perched high above the village. Steeped in history with loads of exhibitions, the 2 hour tour (in English) was busy and well delivered. Despite the hundreds... More

Fantastic preserved castle, steeped in history with an information packed two-hour guided tour. It's like something out of Harry Potter... room after room of interesting historical items, and the height of the building seems never ending - someone told us there are more than 500 steps! The castle is not really baby-friendly since there are hundreds of steps and the... More
