Owner description: Koldinghus was built in the middle of the 13th century, and in the centuries that followed it was one of Denmark's most important royal castles. In 1808 there was a fire that left the castle in ruins – a romantic relic. Today the castle has been restored and houses a museum which is a centre for cultural activities and special exhibitions of international standing.

The castle was very good about showing English subtitles on their videos and there was plentyin the beginning, however, later, the English got less.

The Castle is located in a beautiful area of Kolding, yet we were very disappointed with the state of the building. The main door is in need of restoration as are the walls and internal courtyard. We could not visit the castle interior as it was closed during the time we visited.

Great place and very good English guide. Truly unique restauration style. Don't forget to go to the top of the tower, which offers perfect view of the whole city!

The view from atop of Kolding is very nice. The floors are adorned with an array of displays that are not overwhelming. All you need is 90 minutes max to have a nice buffet lunch or dinner in the brick enclave and to tour the castle. Play some kind of bowling in the courtyard with wooden balls and pins, reminded... It's a nice place to be quiet and relax there is not much going on... Nothing for the childreen to play. It's ok to do a picnic with some friends next to the lake.

Lots to see and do within the Castle, with lots of stairs and differing rooms and displays for the children to be entertained by. Definitely worth the entrance fee. The only complaint was with the cafe, we were charged for the water we asked for, as it was apparently 'iced water' when we asked for 'tap water'. Possibly a translation... More

Kolding once stood on the Danish/German border and Koldinghus was an important strategic site (Google 'Schleswig_Holstein question" and you will see the complexity). Although small, it is a very interesting place to visit and has been restored with great charm and style.

Alone the imposant building on top on the hill, -very strict and uncomforting thrills you. inside it's amasingly rustiqe and yet so modern architechture combined,- it's loaded with fine silverware from last centuries + historic tableaus from the castle/danish history + a dramatic section of castle with an enormous room in full height,- we saw the pieces made from students... And *that's* what makes Koldinghus such a rich & satisfying experience. First, there's interactive games - medieval skittles, bowling (!), men dressed in period costume who showed my teen the different styles of fencing (fascinating how the *fashion* of the time dictated how to fight-!), costumes to try on, PLUS art (great silver collection!), artifact, and painting. Sensitively restored old... More
