In 1808 there was a fire that left the castle in ruins – a romantic relic. Today the castle has been restored and houses a museum which is a centre for cultural activities and special exhibitions of international standing. « less

And *that's* what makes Koldinghus such a rich & satisfying experience. First, there's interactive games - medieval skittles, bowling (!), men dressed in period costume who showed my teen the different styles of fencing (fascinating how the *fashion* of the time dictated how to fight-!), costumes to try on, PLUS art (great silver collection!), artifact, and painting. Sensitively restored old... More

A visit at Koldinghus is very special. The way that the people there have renovated the building with so much tendernes is fantastisk. There are exhibitions inside the museum: One that remains the same about the history of the museum, and a variation of running exhibition. The last I saw was about the Beatles. I was brilliant

An iconic building in Kolding that is well worth a visit, especially if you are interested in history or architecture. The entry fee is a bit high, but once yo have paid it, the castle is yours to explore for as long as you like. There is a good history overview with models on the ground floor, a wonderful sliver... Now this is a castle! Before or after your visit, make sure you spend a little time enjoying the views of the lake. There are lots of places to enjoy lunch or coffee or whatever you like. Tickets are not cheap, but you can easily spend 2-3 hours here and still not see everything. the exhibitions are very interesting. For... More

If you are the least interested in Danish history, a visit to Koldinghus is a "must". The entrance fee of DKK 80 for adults is not exactly cheap, but probably worth it to see this neatly restored castle / palace.

We really loved Koldinghus. A short walk from downtown Kolding. Beautiful waterview before you walk up the stairs to see the castle. Amazing architecture inside and out. Great view of the city. Highly recommend!

This was a great stop on our drive from Aalborg to Copenhagen. The caste has been restored, but you can still see sections of where is was in decay. This is perfect for kids, which a dress up area. Can walk up to the tour for a great view of the city. There is onsite parking, but beware they will... More

Koldinghus was a ruin for 200 years after it was burned down by accident .Spanish troops lived there a winter during Napoleonic Wars, they froze, lit op the ovens and accidentally set fire to the castle. Now it is rebuilt with respect to originality, and houses a large museum, and various exhibition. From the tower there is a very good... More

The internal architecture is amazing. One side of the castle was burned down during the Napoleonic period and has been rebuilt with a stunning contemporary interior, the other still original with a wonderful courtyard and cafe. Housing many famous Danish designer silversmiths work. If you are there before 8th June 2014 call in and see the spectacular Hammered exhibition! The... More
