Great museum but fantastic playground!

Bokrijk had been recommended by colleagues. We arrived around three without any idea of what to expect. There is lots to see and we did not have enough time. Make sure to go early... read more

Bokrijk had been recommended by colleagues. We arrived around three without any idea of what to expect. There is lots to see and we did not have enough time. Make sure to go early and be prepared to spend the day. Make sure to bring cash as most of the eateries and shops do not accept cards. There is something... More

If you are in the neighbourhood and you enjoy a little history, then you should definitely visit this museum. But museum isn't quite the right term. Because it is in the first place a huge nature-park. In the park there are 3 villages reconstructed all from different era's. It's like a time-machine experienced, because you can see real live day... More

We have visited this open air museum several times now and we have never been disappointed. Throughout the years more and more activities have been added allowing you to learn more about how people and animals lived in Flanders' rural areas in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Bokrijk is very large and has many good places to eat and... More

Nice place to learn about Belgium's old way of living and history. Be ready for some enjoyable long walks while tasting traditional food. Interesting architecture all around.

Having enjoyed previous visits to similar museums at Beamish and in Bavaria and Switzerland we thought we would try this. Easy to get to by inter city train which stops hourly nearby. Some parts very good my daughter did some pottery for an extra fee which she enjoyed and the instructor spoke excellent English. The 60s part was very well... More

Bokrijk is a fantastic place to learn about life in rural Flanders in the last century. The open-air museum hosts historical buildings, a mill, a church, several farms, a rectory, a school... It actually doesn't feel like a museum at all, it is more like taking a walk in a village. There are usually a lot of fun and educational... More

We walked a bit around in the parc and then went to the expo about the 60's. It was fantastisch, we took like three hours in the exposition because there were so many things that we recognized from stories of our parents or stuff still present with our grandparents, cute shop as well. The rest of the parc was beautiful... More

Fascinating place to experience how life was like in early modern Belgium. Real life actors and re-enactments of daily life (school lessons, Catholic mass) enhanced the visit. Lots of hands on activities available too, so we could try out old games and sports (like accurately hitting nails into logs) Great for families, all the children there looked like they were... Proved to be a little disappointing buildings are very spread out and massive majority are farm buildings which do become a bit repetitive. Whilst it tries hard and has some enjoyable aspects compared to St Fagens in Cardiff for example it lacks interest

It was interesting but could have been better If there was more English-language translations. We had a horse and carriage ride which I enjoyed.
