1,5 hour drive from Brussels in a large nature park (Park Midden Limburg). Good infrastructure for biking. The open air museum has a great tradition. It shows the way of life in Belgium from the 17th century to early 20th century. You can visit old houses (more than 100) and see craftsmen at work.Nice walkways. Because of the wide surface,... We went with our granddaughters aged 5 and 7 on Sunday to the open air museum. We all had a great day. There was plenty to occupy the children, but there was a lot to keep the adults entertained as well. The girls had a wonderful time, some of the activities they tried were making a clay pot, eating pancake... More

Adding to the various previous reviews there is the option for visiting the Open Air Museum which is pricey for just two hours however check when there are events on for when there are re-enactments which are a good laugh and keep you there a lot longer. You can bypass the museum and visit the extensive park grounds (5 euros... More

This is a fun open air museum showing life in the past in Belgium. There are lots of hands on activities for kids (and adults). We ate lunch at one of the cafes on sight and the food and service were very good. The grounds could be maintained a little bit better and it is a little expensive. Overall it... More

Bokrijk is a historic open air museum composed of a selec tion off old houses, churches and bars from the past centuries. It shows claerly and realisticly how people used to live and work in these dark ages.

We first discovered open-air museums more than 40 years ago in Arnhem. Since then we have visited many others 3 come to mind: Belgium, Norway & Malaysia. My absolute favourite is Bokrijk accessible from the Leuven - Aachen motorway just north of Hasselt. I have been there at least 5 times over the years. Many historic buildings have been moved... I have visited this museum at least a dozen times throughout the years, since it's really close to where I live. Even if you're not interested in history, this is a really nice place to just take a walk. The open air musem has dozens of buildings, some dating back several centuries, all with a lot of info for those... More

Bokrijk has something on offer for everyone! In addition to an open-air museum (April-Oct.) there are gardens and a playground (free) which is open all year round and caters for both little ones and older children. There are also several restaurants to choose from, great way to spend a day.

This is a little-known (for ex-pats, anyway) but very nice outdoor museum in eastern Flanders, not far from Genk. About 1.5 hours via car from Brussels on the E314. There are plenty of activities of various natures here, but I can only comment on the outdoor museum, which is expansive. If you can, pick your day carefully. Holidays may not... More

The domain is large enough to have a quite walk around without being bothered by the other guests. Unfortunately not many actors were present which made visiting the houses a bit boring. The little bakery has tasty bread for sale. The 'Sixties' expo is not that big, but interesting enough. A bigger building would have been handy though. We did... More
