I love lighthouses but the tour is not worth $10 unless you really have your heart set on helping restore. $40 for a quick historic tour was not worth it in my family raising budget. Worth seeing the grounds and outside.

The Northern Light is a serious bike ride away from town for those not in shape. Remember, once you get there you have a walk of about a 1/2 mile through sand tot he light house. The walk is very nice and you have a view of he ocean and the light house all the way. The beach out by... More

There are only two downsides to the north lighthouse: the first is the quarter mile walk on loose cobblestones to get there; and the building is closed. Only the grounds are open to the public. Sadly, that's the case for most lighthouses in the states. The walk isn't really an issue as long as you're wearing sensible shoes.

Beautiful old building in what looks like near perfect condition! Great photo options. A charge to enter the upper portion of the Lighthouse.

Its a nice long bike ride to this lighthouse - followed by a beautiful beach walk out to the light house - unfortunately it was closed when we walked up - but still enjoyable to get out there!

Ride to the northern tip of the island a spark near the lake/settler's rock. Then walk on the stony beach towards the lighthouse. We didn't complete it but I am sure it must be lovely. The beach is a little difficult to walk because of the gravel.

North light is probably better seen at a distance, as the monolith guards the north point of Block Island. It is nice to see, but it is usually closed to the public, and it is about a 20 min walk each way across a rocky beach. It is somehting you moght want to do once, but I would rather just... More

You should be in good shape if you do this as it is a hike from the parking area over 1/2 mile but it was the highlight of my trip to the island and if the weather is nice say 70 degrees or warmer bring your bathing suit and a towel. There are no lifeguards so either bring a friend... More

tough ride on a rental bike, not properly adjusted. Then I learned, about a 1 mile walk on a rocky beach. Use a moped.
