Fabulous cream teas, interesting Lighthouse museum with knowledgeable volunteers to explain about how it all works and the history of the Lighthouse on this site. Some things for younger kids to do and play with, just be super careful if climbing to the top of the Lighthouse with a toddler as it's a very steep staircase almost like a winding... More

Souter lighthouse was built in 1871 and was the first lighthouse to be powered by electricity and stands proud on the coastline between the Tyne and the Wear. The guides were very informative and you have every opportunity to browse and read about its history; you may have to queue inside before climbing the spiral 74 steps (as you can... More

Visiting Souter Lighthouse you feel privileged to be part of the history of such a fantastic landmark. For such a small attraction it packs some punch, with lots for the kids to do, very informative and educational, with great little play areas inside and out. Visit regularly and love it, especially the cafe. The Leas are beautiful and such a... More

Walking towards this historic lighthouse along the coastal path on a wonderful sunny day, I felt privileged to be taking in the scenery - what a wonderful job the volunteers do, and what a marvellous natural setting. The way the grasses surrounding the lighthouse have been allowed to grow, and the paths that meander up and down the fields are... More

Visited the lighthouse on a wet and windy day, so couldn't walk along the cliffs and take in the stunning scenery which the lighthouse overlooks. The small cottage where the Keeper and his family lived have been furnished so you can get a feel of what life was like. The stairs are steep, particularly when you get to the top,... More
