A proper pub ... the best in town?

Been in many times and they always have a good collection of decent beers along with a friendly atmosphere.

Great pub - and a new dining experience is on the way. Good, really good, real ales. Friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the beer sold. Pleasant decor and nicely welcoming in the winter with a cosy fire.

Having previously enjoyed drinks in the pub at the Isis my fiance and I decided to try the restaurant upstairs last week. Being coeliac I often find it difficult to dine out (particularly in Sunderland) where gluten free offerings are slim! I must say that all of the staff went above and beyond the call of duty for my dietary... More

Visited here last night with a friend for a birthday treat and I must say that we were both really impressed. Upon arrival we walked to the top of the stairs following the sign for Barnett's and in the little Victorian looking room where the restaurants is there were about 5 tables occupied by diners. There didn't appear to be... More

Excellent food, we couldn't believe the standard of food for the price you pay. It was a really relaxed place and our waitress Michelle was lovely, nothing was too much trouble. We had a drink downstairs in the bar as well where the staff are really welcoming and friendly, and there's a good choice of real ale and ciders. We... More

This is the place in town that I go to meet my friends for a couple of pints to unwind at the end of the week. The selection of ales and beers is hard to beat, the decor is warm and comfortable and the staff are fantastic. Nothing is ever a problem and there is never any bother going on.... More

Just finished a lovely meal cooked by Andy Barnett of Barnetts at The Isis. Fine quality plump mussels in a spicy chorizo sauce followed by the pork belly with black pudding. All presented wonderfully, but tasting fantastic. Great quality, which I find non too common and very well portioned. Superb veg, with buttery swede, carrots and broccoli, plus the accompanying... Our party of 11 visited on a Saturday afternoon, we pre booked, but we were the only ones there! The restaurant is lovely, full of atmosphere. The food was very tasty, with a variety of dishes. Unfortunately, 3 courses took over 3 hours, and as I said, we were the only ones in!

After feeling the atmosphere of the Isis Pub, we decided to stay and have a meal in the Restaurant situated upstairs - Barnetts. What a pleasant surprise we had, expecting normal, average pub grub we were presented with a great waitress service from the very charismatic Natasha, to a wonderful freshly made, well presented extra special culinary delight. I had... More
