Visited this pub today in a break from work. It looks very grand from the outside and combined with the Empire theatre indicates the grander that Sunderland once enjoyed. The interior doesn't disappoint either. Lots of wood paneling and lovely leather chairs. The wide beer choice is exceptional and well kept. The service is excellent and the staff informed, polite... First visit yesterday. Group of four Norwich City supporters in town to see the Canaries take on the Black Cats. This place had been recommended and it didn't disappoint. Arrived around 12.30 and it was already busy with fans of both clubs mingling happily. The SOL is around 15 mins walk away. This is a lovely old Victorian building with... More

Too many pubs have changed and not always for the better. Modern pubs are fine and there is a place for them, but the old fashioned type of pub, with the old fixtures and fittings can be a delight. Ship Isis has managed to combine both. It has kept hold of the design and layout of the old pub, but... More

Has always been a great beer pub but popped in for some food Saturday eve and found it equally good for that. Simple dishes done really well. Enjoyed it so much that we returned on Sunday for lunch with my parents and found it again superb. Great staff who are very knowledgable about the beers that they serve, gave excellent... More

Great pub - and a new dining experience is on the way. Good, really good, real ales. Friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the beer sold. Pleasant decor and nicely welcoming in the winter with a cosy fire.

Having previously enjoyed drinks in the pub at the Isis my fiance and I decided to try the restaurant upstairs last week. Being coeliac I often find it difficult to dine out (particularly in Sunderland) where gluten free offerings are slim! I must say that all of the staff went above and beyond the call of duty for my dietary... More

Visited here last night with a friend for a birthday treat and I must say that we were both really impressed. Upon arrival we walked to the top of the stairs following the sign for Barnett's and in the little Victorian looking room where the restaurants is there were about 5 tables occupied by diners. There didn't appear to be... More

Excellent food, we couldn't believe the standard of food for the price you pay. It was a really relaxed place and our waitress Michelle was lovely, nothing was too much trouble. We had a drink downstairs in the bar as well where the staff are really welcoming and friendly, and there's a good choice of real ale and ciders. We... More
