Quite spectacular

Cycled up it as part of long tour. A few good cliffs but not too steep I think 8% maximum and not too much traffic either.

If nature is your goal, Alta River Canyon is the place too visit! I was born, and grew up only 1hour walk from the canyon, and the landscape is breathtaking. Alta is know to have a very good salmon river (Altaelva), that is know all over the world for its great salmon fishing. The canyon this river have made, its... More

We took the Alta Dam tour from our cruise ship. At $209 each we found this to be quite pricey, but what’s cheap in Norway? You take a long ride out on the bus with really nothing special to look at but we did stop at an Indian TP where we all went inside and were introduced to local cultures.... More

Have been on some of these in the past and this one compares extremely favourably. Extremely helpful and capable crew and magnificent scenery. Highly recommend. Need to rug up a bit as it can get chilly. Returning to the warm restaurant was also good.

Nice views along the road and nice trails to hike, especially if the weather is nice! You can see some nice waterfalls!

Norway is full of amazing landscapes, I found myself quite breathless for the whole time I was in the country, but the Alta river gorge is a highlight. You see a lot of tundra with stunted trees and caravans on skis on the way there, then the gorge itself is incredibly beautiful. I went to the dam and inside the... More

We hiked the long trail. For the youngest (age 7) the last part of the return was a bit arduous. The whole trip is 15km all together so you should be in good condition. The hike will reward you with stunning views of the canyon. Good boots are recommended as it might be a bit wet in places.

The scenery is quite breathtaking and even though we were there in July in the early morning there had been a snowstorm which dusted the trees. When the sun came out everything sparkled, it was so pretty. The tour of the dam was good and it was interesting to learn about the steps taken by the utility to try to... More

This is a great day out, a coach ride of about an hour and a half taking you through the tundra that stretches all the way to Siberia and the Alta Canyon, in which waterfalls freeze during winter. The scenery is stunning and you have a tremendous sense of isolation here. The Alta Dam was built despite massive protests by... More
