Breathtaking power of the water. great fun. crowdy. keep in mind to take a best place at the bridge, you have to be there 30 minutes in advance prior the show.

During summertime every evening at 6 pm the waters of Imatrankoski (Imatra rapid) are released free to give spectators an idea of the power the nowadays still and empty canyon hosted before it was harnessed by the dam. This used to be the most powerful rapid in Europe and the Valtionhotelli hotel was built on the very edge of it... More

6 o'clock every evening they open the floodgates to music. Takes about 10 minutes. You need to jostle past the pushy Russians to get a decent view but it's worth it. You can zip line across the rapids or just watch from the bridge as we did. It's not a waterfall and it's not amazing but it's definitely worth a... More

Best to go a bit early to get parking and a good viewing spot, although people were very considerate and it was not too crowded . We went on a Friday. There was an expectant atmosphere and the music started a few moments before the gates opening and really added drama to the event of the water release. Great opportunity... More

We recently visited Lappeenranta and Imatra. I liked first more, but Imatra is also nice, when someone likes small, old towns. Beside the Waterfall and some other small attractions, another good thing there is that : one can easily take a fast trip to Russia. If it´s a 2-3 days boat trip, no visa in required. There is not so... More

Its just a dried up river if the water is not running, so go in the summertime at 18.00. Walk along the river and go also to the parks near the waterfall.

We went today 14/6/15 thinking that it is only a week away from midsummer, so it might be working. But unfortunately it wasn't.

We didn't know what to expect having driven a long way by motorcaravan to view this event. We were not disappointed. Yes, it's fantastic and I would go back again and again! But then I am biased as I love nature and music. This is certainly a great combination of Finlandia and the sheer power of water over rocks. Well... More
