We didn't know the exact location but as soon as we found out the place was called Jelling and not Vejle we couldn't mis. First impression was a beautiful church, lit by the sun, against a dark cloudy sky. Then we saw the... More

If you have a sense for history this place is great. Its in the center of pleasant smalltown Jelling, and houses viking remains (burial grounds/mounds) and a quite good museum (opens summer '15). The "Jelling-Stone" wich describes the entry of christianity into Denmark is the main attraction.

The stones are part of the Danish history well worth a visit however the Museum was not open which was a pity.

Given that Jelling has recently been given World Heritage site status, it was very disappointing that Christ's image had been worn away on the runic stone. It is now protected by glass.

Although it seems a small setting it is a very importance piece in Danish history. Even though we visited the site in the evening, the church was still open and worth a visit. we took our time wondering around the site and the rune stones are impressive. It is understandable that they are behind glass so they can be protected... More

Interesting and well worth a visit. Besides the historical site there are some nice cafés and a cool play area for kids nearby

Jelling is close to the village of Vejle, a small local train gets you here. It is worth making the effort because although small, this is the birthplace of Denmark and justifiably a World Heritage Site. First thing you notice are the two huge burial mounds, one with a Danish flag on top. The north one has a bronze age... More
