The Lodge at Santa Marta Nature Reserve was such a wonderful experience! The personnel were friendly and helpful in every way. The food was healthy and plentiful. They are willing to work with you to provide modern and safe transportation from the airport to the lodge which is a 3-hour drive up the mountains from the Santa Marta Airport. Upon... More

For the outdoor adventurer the Sierra Nevada is a utopia. I guided tours in the area for Elemento Outdoor Adventure in 2013 The area blew me away with its diversity of ecosystems rising from sea level to the permanent snows of the triple peaks. The bird life was the best I have experienced in the whole of South America after... More

What can I say but, Wow! After arriving at the port aboard the Carnival Triumph we were bussed from the port, through the town of Santa Marta, up the Sierra Mountains to the small mountain town of Minca. Here we were transferred to four wheel drive vehicles of various types and were driven further up the mountains to the La... More

The best trail I have ever done was to Tayrona's Lost City in Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. This trail is approximately 47 kms and takes you to this Lost City only found in the 70's decade. You can only reach there walking through the mountain trail. Beautiful unique flora, astonishing fauna, with great bird species and colourful butterflies. You... More

This was an amazing trip to a coffee plantation. We took a coach from Santa Marta to Minca and then four wheel drive vehicles up to the plantation, On arrival we were given a cup of coffee and bathroom break. The place was restarted in 1950 by a German couple who ran it until 2002 when their son Micky took... More

Everyone should go there and spend at least few days. You can find there amazing nature, green lush forests, hills, a lots of waterfalls, streams, natural swimming hools. You can observe there plenty of wonderful birds. This is an ideal area to hike of any level of difficulty. You can visit there coffee farms, cocoa farms. And this is perfect... More

They say Minca is a magical place. I wasn’t convinced at first, but after several days spent sitting at the river contemplating things, I started to believe it. It’s magical if you let it start to affect you, if you really let what it is in, at least that’s what I’d say. I stayed at La Candalaria, a coffee farm... More

These mountains are 18,800 ft and 26 miles from ocean. Very impressive. We came in on a cruise ship and viewed from Santa Marta.

Even with the limited amount of time we had (two days), my friends and I saw and experienced so much -- Sierra Nevada mountain range is a paradise for hikers, bird watchers, and folks who love nature.
