What a wonderful way to explore the Waipoua Forest and the Kauri trees. The guides were great and we learned such a lot from them about local tradition. This experience is a must!

The twilight excursion into the forest was extremely moving. The two Maori ladies who led the group were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They paid great respect to the plants, the birds and the magnificent trees. The "Father of the forest" is the oldest known kauri tree (3000-4000 years old) in the world and an awesome sight, not to be missed.

We were with Mere and Nataleah this evening and they took us on an amazing journey. They shared their cultural stories and they explained factual information about Kauri trees and other trees in the forest. We learned a great deal, and enjoyed ourselves very much, but what shined through it all was their passion and commitment. They were excellent guides... More

We’re here in this region as a Kauri Tree pilgrimage – and tonight is our big event. With Maori guides we are visiting the Waipoua Forest and will meet Tane Mahuta, Lord of the Forest. It is 2,000 years old, 51 metres high, 14 metres wide and the tallest Kauri Tree still standing. For Maori, Tane Mahuta embodies the creation... More

It was very pleasant walking in the forest at that time of day. The guides were good and we learnt about the Kauri trees, the ferns, Maori legends. All very interesting. The singing to the important trees was charming to begin with, but a bit repetitive after a while, but despite this the walk is different, and well worth doing.

We were fortunate enough to do this walk on a beautiful moonlite might. Our guides, Mere and Natalia, were fantastic. The experience was a combination of story and song, paying tribute to the mighty Kauri trees in the Waipoua Forest and their deep relationship with centuries of Maori culture. The Kauri is a majestic giant that is revered by the local... More
