My husband and I spend quite a bit of time on the Big Island and really love this beach. It is quiet, offers both sun and shade and has bathrooms, showers, etc. Parking is $5 for non-residents. Snorkeling here is great. If the surf is high, it can be a bit murky but there is still plenty to see. The... More

This beach has it all, the only difficulty may be in finding it. Queen's Hwy north to Hapuna exit, to dead end, left to telephone pole #69. Parking lot, flush toilets, and showers available. It is a shaded walk along the backs of lovely estates on one side, trees and ocean on the left. We walked south until the large... More

Our local kayak guide told us about this beach. Said it was less crowded than most and certainly less crowded than Hapuna right up the road. He was right. Less crowded, plenty of shade if you want it. Surf was pretty rough in January but I was still able to swim. Lots of rocks. Very scenic. Free parking, lots of... More

Beach 69 is a little hidden gem. It is located off the beaten path but has a free parking lot and facilities. The beach is small but not very crowded as Hapuna Beach catches the crowd right down the street. Drive past Hapuna Beach to where the road turns to a one lane poorly blacktopped road and its about 1... More

After visiting lots of beaches with no sun protection this was a welcome change. It is a cute beach tucked away. Good for kids to play in the sand due to shade but surf was still too high to bring the babies in the water

Beautiful spot with bathroom facilities and parking - easy to get from parking to a place to sit and watch waves and whales - if I were traveling with someone with challenges getting around, this would be a great stop. This is not a big sandy sit all day under your umbrella beach - more of a climb on the... More

Having visited a number of beaches, our family agrees this is our favourite. It's smaller and therefore less crowded, there is tons of shade (more than some people want--it's not for sun worshippers!), the waves are a lot of fun without being too big, the sand is deep and soft, and the snorkelling is okay (though not as good as... Waialea Beach is gorgeous. The sand is soft, the setting picturesque and the surroundings much more serene and less inhabited than the nearby Hapuna Beach. Though this beach does not offer a wide open sandy beach, like Hapuna, for surfers and boarders, it does have its fair share of sandy space mixed with gorgeous rock formations, reef and intrinsic beauty.... Beach 69 has become a lot busier in the last 10 years, but its charm still stands. The beach is approximately 500 yards long and divided by trees and rocks into a series of seemingly separate beaches, so it feels like you're getting your own private beach. The offshore waters also have some of the best snorkeling on the island.... More
