This beach is off the beaten path but well worth it. The beach itself is relatively narrow and dotted with clusters of trees - some right to the water's edge. Msg there is plenty of shade especially in the morning. There are great sections for kids that are protected by lava formations from breaking waves. There's plenty of snorkeling here... More

Did not get to spend a whole day here but what I saw makes me want to come back! There were many fish and water entry was pretty easy which is not always true about Kona beaches with good snorkeling. Shade trees, bathroom, rinse shower and a few tables are here. Many local families as well as tourists, but it... More

It took us a while to figure out how to get here. You go to Hapuna and then instead of going into the parking lot you keep heading south on a narrow hilly paved kinda road. Eventually you get to 69's. It's funky because it seems like it's popular with the locals but we certainly didn't experience any kind of... More

Next to Hapuna Beach. Beach 69 is much smaller and rockier. Great place to snorkel. Beach space is sometimes at a premium especially at high tide. Bathrooms and outdoor showers. Fee for visitors; kama'aina free. Hapuna next door is more of what visitors would think of as a traditional, spectacular Hawaiian beach with wide expanses of white sand.

We visited Waialea Beach (Beach 69) as we were touring the area. It was top on my husband's list because of the name-the mile marker should be closer to 70 than 69, but it is what it is. There is a shower, great sand, although if you need a lifeguard there is none. We used the app Big Island Revealed... More

I'm only going to repeat what others said. Great beach, good snorkelling, and LOTS of shady places to sit. The parking lot is small so the beach never got really packed. Will definitely be our go to spot.

This beach worked well for my wife who like shade. The beach appears to be set up in zones, north for the kids, mid point for those who plan to stay for the day and the south end where the locals hang out. the beach itself is not wide, but there is plenty of shade, restrooms, showers, etc. The water... This is a very scenic beach that is very popular with locals as well as tourist. There is a daily parking fee of $5 for non-residents, there are bathroom, showers and changing facilities. There are no lifeguards but normally very safe swimming. There is a small island off the beach that offers great snorkeling and coral reef. It's a great... More
