A pretty beach but the surf became lively

My wife and I checked out the beach at Waialea (also known as beach 69 because of the nearest mile marker on highway 19). We should have paid a $5 non-resident parking fee but... read more

My wife and I checked out the beach at Waialea (also known as beach 69 because of the nearest mile marker on highway 19). We should have paid a $5 non-resident parking fee but the machine was out of action. We decided to head to the south section of the beach, finding a spot between the trees. The beach was... More

A local recommended this beach during my 10 day stay on the big island. I had fabulous snorkeling experience - saw a plethora of colorful fish, coral and even swam with sea turtles! Bring everything you want/need/ there is nowhere to buy drinks, food, sunblock, etc. There was plenty of sunny areas as well as shaded areas and plenty of... More

We took two trips to Beach 69, and had different experiences each time. The first time, the water was a little rough, but that made it perfect for boogie boarding. We had a picnic on the north end of the beach, but were constantly having to shoo away mice, so I would recommend eating at the picnic tables located close... More

69s Beach was our 2nd favorite beach on the big island. It isn't very big but it is secluded due to the beautiful trees growing over the sand and into the water. It creates private little areas where couples or families can hang out without people right beside them. There are rocks 100 yards out that provide decent snorkeling. On... More

This beach is neither best for children, for swimming, for boogy boarding, or for seeing sunsets. But it is still a great beach with a special feeling. We highly recommend visiting it!

This is a smaller beach south of the much larger Hapuna. It has quite a few rocks but a nice spot with a lot of shade.

Crowded, but fabulous swimming and snorkeling. A gem of a beach. We'll be back. There are cool rocks that you can hang your towel on, trees for shade, and a lot of different interesting sections, almost like little coves. On a less busy day, it would be pure heaven.

Black Sand, scenic with rocky shoreline so great beach for pictures. There is a surprising deep drop off when snorkeling not too far from the beach. It made me feel like I was flying high in the air.

Some Big Island beaches have no trees and no shade like Manini owali, and some are almost like a forest touching the sea : this is the case of the small scenic Waialea beach. Inside the Hapuna beach park, located but further south, with less tourist as without coast watch, the Waialea beach is a little jewel, beautiful and quiet.

Soft sand, relatively secluded, great snorkeling out at the point to the north. When you hit the beach after walking down from the parking lot (toilets and shower are there), turn right, walk until you hit the wall, and you are there. Warm water, families (locals and tourists), and just a great place to wile away a half day. Some... More
