Great open beach with lots of white sand, clear waters, and nice waves. Great family beach. Not much shade, so be prepared for all sun or take an umbrella. There were a few trees but lots of ants in those areas.

This beach is beautiful. Crystal blue water and the finest, whitest sand I've ever seen. The sand is so soft you could fall asleep. This is a nice family beach. The waves are perfect for body surfing. There were swimmers and stand up paddle boarders. Fun to watch. This is at the top of my list of things to do... More

We spent our last day at Hapuna Beach and so glad we did. What a fabulous beach! We brought a cooler with sandwiches and drinks, but there is a snack bar and also a place to rent beach equipment. We rented an umbrella that cost $10. OK bathroom facilities. Sometimes there was a low surf and then other times bigger... More

This was the first beach we visited on our recent trip to the BI because we read that it's often rated best in the country. The long stretch of sand is fabulous, and we didn't mind the $5 parking fee because of the facilities. This 61-year-old woman tried boogie boarding for the first time. My daughter coached me the first... More

Wonderful, clear, perfect beach - but be warned, the wind is crazy!! You will find many people telling you to bring water coolers and umbrellas (great), but don't forget to bring some way to anchor that umbrella in the sand. Many flew down the beach :) Definitely more windy on the south end (left when looking out at it while... More

Very nice sand beach. The water was clear and it was sandy. Not a rocky bottom at all. We had a great time.

One of the few surf beaches on the West coast of the Big Island. Five dollars to park all day. Has all the expected facilities. Seems to get at least a wind-driven wave (fun for body surfing) even when there is no swell. Lifeguards make it safe for all ages.

Fantastic (water, sand) and well organized beach for family fun (parking, snacks, showers, toilets...). But it obviously attracts a lot of people. So, if you are looking for a quiet beach for romance and idealistic Hawaii honeymoon pictures , you may not find it here.

Hapuna Beach is such a gorgeous beach. Parking all-day is $5.00/car, with and in and out privileges. What's really nice is that there is a separate access road from the main parking lot that takes you down to another parking lot right by the beach for cars with accessible permits for those who are mobility challenged, using wheelchairs, etc. The...
