Not too far from KONA airport, approximately 25 minutes. The beach is very attractive. You have great views and can play in the water if you chose. For the physically challenged, there are level walkways and a area suitable for picnicking and groups. The lavatory/changing areas were clean. The beach itself affords you breath taking views. I felt safe. There... More

Great beach, awesome snorkeling and we swam with turtles!! You have to pay to park, but it's worth it. Their are clean bathrooms, showers for rinsing off sand outdoors and lifeguards.

This beach had beautiful white sand & crystal clear water. We did not see a lot of fish, but we saw two turtles swimming around. It costs $5 to enter the beach, but well worth it. Nowhere to order food, so make sure you pack a lunch and drinks. They did have Pavilions with tables so you could resort to some... More

The beach is gorgeous and offered exceptional boogie boarding one day and placid, snorkel waters the next. The restrooms and showers were nice to have prior to the drive home. Kudos to the exceptional lifeguard staff that warned swimmers of rip currents one day.

This is one of the prettier beaches I have ever been on and I have been on a lot of them. The water is warm and you are able to walk out a good distance before it gets too deep to stand. Make sure you rent a beach chair an umbrella before you head down the path to the beach.... More

We were staying in Kona and drove north to the Kohala coast to Hapuna Beach State Park. This is the same beach that folks staying that the fancy Hapuna Beach hotel get access too. $5 for parking, long swath of lovely sand, waves that were great for boogie boarding. Bathroom, showers and a little bit of shade near rocks and... More

This is a beautiful clean beach. Relatively small waves that are good for boogie boarding and small enough to swim comfortably. There is a relatively small reef but one can see fish and sea turtles here. They have a concession stand and rentals of beach chairs and snorkel equipment. Everything costs $10 each to rent and parking is $5 per... More

We went boogie boarding here several days and the waves were always perfect. Snorkeling is also good. very nice and well maintained beach, park, and facilities. There were some shark attacks here before our arrival and one day the beach was closed the whole day due to a shark sighting. Two lifeguard stations are on the beach and the staff... More

This is the stereotype of an idyllic beach. Soft, white sand, good body surfing waves, and good snorkeling. It's a bit of a drive if you're staying south of Kailua-Kona, but we thought it was worth it to spend an afternoon there. Best beach we visited on the Big Island (out of 4, so take that for what it's worth).

We were visiting Big Island, stayed in Kailua-Kona and rented a car. This was our favourite place to go: A beautiful long sand beach, not too crowded, nice not too high waves, beautiful in sunset. Parking for a day costs $5 and there is a small kiosk to get some shaved ice and food. Each time we went there the... More
