The waves here are rough sometimes, I lost my RayBan sunglasses and my bikini bottom came off. Oopps! nevertheless we had so much fun. You pay 5$ for parking, there's lifeguard on duty and the washroom/shower facility is well maintained.

Hapuna beach is a state park and there is a $5.00 fee for parking, and worth every penny. Large white sand beach framed by palm trees, great for swimming though a little rough for snorkling. There is a concession stand that has great burgers, hotdogs and smoothies, with seating in the shade. There is no shade on the beach itself,...

We visited this beach twice during our week long vacation on the Big Island because it was so beautiful, clean and had decent facilities (showers).
No rocks, just soft beautiful white sand. Love this beach! I was on the sise by the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel but walked over to the public area and it seemed nice there to. If you go to the public area you will probably want to bring an umbrella too as there is no areas with shade.
We spent a morning at this beach and enjoyed it a lot. It didn't feel crowded. The surf is very strong there, so not really a good beach for children or older people.
Maryland does not have the best beaches so when we hit this beach on our vacation, I was in awe! It truly is stunning. If you're willing to walk a bit further there are rocks that can provide good shade if needed. Bring watershoes because the sand gets really hot. Don't go here for surfing. It's best for families and...

One of the best beaches on the island and only a $5 per vehicle entry fee. The sandy beach and bottom are welcome after the rough ocean entry points elsewhere. Water was perfection!
I find it VERY opportunistic that starting April 01, 2013 this beach charges non-residents of Hawaii (read: all visitors) $5 to park their car in the vast parking lot that has always been unpaid in the past. This is the only Big Island beach where tourists are asked to pay simply to park their car in a *state-funded* park. Attendants...

Long stretch of beach to lie in the sun or challenge the waves. Body surfing is fun and the towering waves carry you back to shore. Lots of sand (gets into everything) but there are outdoor showers to rinse off, change rooms and shaded picnic areas with tables. Great for a picnic.
We always come to this beach because it is the prettiest one on the Big Island. They have a new $5 parking fee for non residents which is very reasonable. There are bathrooms and showers but not the kind I prefer to use. A little bit of a rustic campground feel to them. Bring your own soap. The beach has...
