It is a beautiful beach and with space for pic nics in the shade, restrooms and showers are available and a big car park that costs $10 for all day parking. Great for jumping in the waves and bodyboarding Not so good for swimming as the current is very strong No snorkeling here Definitely worth a visit

This public, state beach is really beautiful, clean and friendly. It is less rocky than many of the other beaches in this area and the water is crystal clear. There is a small snack bar with rentals. Bring or rent shade b/c there really is none. Good boogey boarding spot but the tide is a bit much for younger kids... More

Good wave action and warm blue ocean gives this beach good marks. Hapuna Beach is never too crowded when we travel here. So grab a beach towel and enjoy this great beach.

Hapuna Beach features a very wide strip of soft golden sand that stretches for half a mile by crystal clear sapphire water. Greenery abounds behind the sand, adding to the lovely scene. It is easy to see why one international magazine has called Hapuna the best beach in the United States. Swimming is supposed to be fantastic here, but we... More

This beach has been rated the best in the US. We certainly enjoyed our time on the sand and in the water. The beach is broad with lots of sand, the water deepened gradually with only a minimal surf....so nice for swimming and having fun. We went on a weekday morning and there were perhaps fifty plus people there....but still... More

When we visited in winter it was good for playing in the waves. On occasion it was too rough. You might want to check before you pay the parking fee. Closer to summer it seemed much calmer and the swimming was excellent. It is such a beautiful beach and the sand soft and water clear. There is no shade though... More

Hapuna is one of the prettiest beaches along the Kohala Coast. During the week it's not crowded at all, but if you're not a local expect to pay $5 for parking.

beware and do NOT follow the advise in the Snorkel Hawaii Book Judy and Mel will lead you astray. Our morning would have gone so much better if we had not parked in the Hapuna Beach Hotel public parking and walked the horrible little trail down to the beach. Pay the $5 and walk along the shore if you want... More

We love Hapuna. It’s a beautiful white sandy beach in the Kohala area. This trip we learned they charge $5 per car for non-residents to enter the park. It has been 3 years since our last visit so not sure when this was added, but it’s well worth it. They have improved the parking area a lot. We like to... More

This beach exceeded my expectations. For only $5 per car you can enjoy these crystal clear waters that look like liquid glass. There is white sand. An array of picnic tables and the concession food is very reasonably priced and above all else delicious. They also have hawaian shaved ice. It was not crowded and we also got to swim... More
