Although it was a cloudy afternoon, we still had a nice time on the beach people watching, and enjoying the waves. They were rolling in anywhere from 4-8 feet and had a lot of power for the body surfers and the bodyboard riders. There were some great long rides. The waves continued to get bigger to the point where the... More

I've been coming to the big island for years and this beach never disappoints. The sand is soft, the water is clear, there are nice showers, restrooms and food too. The only change is non hawaii residents have to pay $5 to park here now. The waves can get strong do pay attention to the lifeguards. But this is a... More

Big Island's best white sand beach. It was an hour drive from kailua. But worth the drive. You have to pay $5 to get in which is valid for the entire hour. We had a great time on this beach. The waves were huge may be because of high tide that day. But even kids were having great fun. There... More

We searched all over the big island looking for a sandy beach with no rocks or lava and we found it at Hapuna. Bathrooms and showers available. Best beach on the big island!

We visited with our two children aged seven and nine. The beach is beautiful and it was great to find a natural white sand beach. The waves were not particularly big but we were still careful to follow the life guards advice and stayed out of the areas close to the rocks at each end of the beach and in... More

Waves at this beach can be very intimidating looking. There are good lifeguards present. Kids had a blast with their boogie boards. One of the nicest all white sand beaches on Kona. Hard to find at times due to all the lava. Very enjoyable nice breeze

Been fortunate to have travelled extensively and been to many beaches in the Mayan, Fiji, Maui, Oahu. This beach is truly fantastic. The beach is less than a mile long and fairly busy. We found a nice spot to relax. Great beach for kids as you can go out 75ft and still be in 3 feet of water. The water... More

We visited this beach many times while on the Big Island. Just loved it ! So pretty and relaxing! I would go back to the Big Island just to visit Hapuna Beach again. There are restrooms and a covered area with picnic tables for lunch. Lifeguards are also present at this beach.

We picnicked and people watched for a couple of hours at this very popular sandy beach on the Kohala coast north of Kailua-Kona. President's Day weekend presented a full parking lot ($5 fee) at midday but we did find a spot on the beach and enjoyed the distant whale's breaching and spouting, kids playing on the beach and all of... Hapuna Beach is a beautiful slice of paradise found 45 minutes north of Kailua Kona. There is a small fee to park if you are not a resident. The park requires a bit of a walk to the beach...all downhill. It is one of the best places to spot humpback whales during the winter months. Many say it is the... More
