This is a very beautiful beach with clear waters with soft, shallow sandy bottom. The water is warm and great for swimming and body boarding. There are picnic areas, but the beach area near the water has very little shaded areas. It is also a bit of walk from the parking lot to the actual beach.

Fully recommend this place. Lovely white sand, good areas of shade by the rocks. Nice clear warm and safe swimming. You are supposed to pay $5 to park however we did not have to.

White sand, warm sun and clear blue water. We loved this beach. It has a great sandy bottom that slopes gently down into the ocean. It also has rocks that provide snorkeling. It is a state park and costs to enter but it was worth it. We were there on a weekday and it was not crowded at all. It... More

Hapuna beach is my favorite beach of all the beaches on the big island. The white sand stretches forever, the water is warm, the waves aren't too big so boogie boarding is fun and safe. The facilities are great. If you want to go snorkeling take a right when leaving the parking lot and head down to Beach 69, great... More

We read an article that described the beach as a screensaver shot - they didn't lie. Picture perfect with white sand and the blue ocean. Plenty of parking but I could see it being popular on a perfect weekend. Worth a stop when touring north from Kona.

Beach 69 is wonderful...shade is available and it is most picturesque. It is fairly easy to enter the water, and on November 9th the water temperature was perfect. There is a big green sign that says Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area, that is where you turn, not at the Puaka sign. We only found the "right" beach on the way... More

My second time to Hapuna and it was as amazing as the first time. It was a perfect day with lots of sunshine, relatively few people and incredible waves and water. It is perhaps the best beach on the big island that I have been too. If you are in the area, you MUST go and visit this beach. For... More

We had a picnic lunch to eat, and it was a bit windy, so we wanted to eat it in our car. Right above this beach, there is a small paved road that takes you to the unpaved bluffs above the beach. The views were amazing! We imaged this was a hot place for the young locals at night. :... More

For many years have come to Hawaii and Hapuna Beach to enjoy the beach but this year it cost me $5. Not a big deal but the principle of being charged. Yes the local get in free, and they should, but this is Hawaii falling into the mainland mind set to charge to enjoy the beach. SAD!
