This is a gorgeous beach and worth a visit while on the big island. There is no shade so definitely bring your own umbrella unless you want to fry in the sun all day. Water was beautiful and good surf to have some fun in. It cost $5 for non- residents.

We enjoyed snorkeling at this sandy beach. So far this is our favorite beach on the big island because of the quality of the sand, the color of the water and the facilities. It is a state park so it is $5 to get in. Restrooms and picnic tables are available as well as a small food stand.

Got there about 10am. Most of the shade was taken - but we were fine with that. The shade is very far from the water (esp. at low tide). Sand is fine and soft. Good surf when we were there. People boggie boarding and jumping waves. Bathrooms were fine. By noon it was fairly busy but didn't feel crowded. Winds... More

We stayed at the Hapuna Prince hotel and enjoyed a clean and beautiful beach. The color of the water and the waves were enticing. Easy to get to for public and visitors. A great addition to our Hawaii visit. Grammy Sharon

This is a beautiful beach to go to! There is a $5 entrance fee. I didn't see a place to buy any sort of food or drinks from. It could get pretty windy in the afternoon which made it difficult for us to stay as long as we had originally planned because sand was getting into our eyes and all... More

Ditto the previous commenters -- went here with my family (husband and 2 kids (5 and 2 yrs old) and we all had a great time. We went twice during our visit! The beach has clear water -- we saw a sea turtle swimming in the water and from our view, we saw spinner dolphins! Kids had a great time,... More

this is one of my favorite public beaches on the Big Island. Sand is wonderful, drop off is slight. Great place to swim and boogie board when the surf is up a bit

This beach is exactly what you would expect from the movies. Got there around 10.30am when it wasn't very crowded and enjoyed the beautiful day in the sun. Lifeguards make sure everybody is safe in the water and restrooms are right next to the beach. Well worth the 5$ parking
