We visited Hapuna Beach twice during our 6 days on the Big Island. Wow what a gorgeous beach!! Large enough to never feel crowded, clean sand, good facilities. The water was so clear and beautiful and there was no sharp drop-offs so you can go far out in the water before having to swim. A beautiful beach!

Good body surfing waves most days. Beach has lifeguards on duty and an excellent, safe parking area. Also, there's a snack bar and showers to rinse off the sand. There is a parking fee, but well worth it to spend the day.

I am so glad I drove the extra 30 minutes to get to this beach! It has smooth, white sand, with a huge coastline. When I went, the surf was pretty rough, so I didn't go too far out. They have umbrella and chair rentals, but they were a little pricey ($10 each). There is also food available for purchase.... More

This beach is nice! We compare this beach to Big Beach on Maui, but not as big. Same vibe, fun waves, nice sand, lifeguards and people watching. Recommend!

Our guidebook said Hapuna is what everybody pictures when thinking of a perfect beach and I don't disagree. It was the first beach we went to on our vacation and we just loved it! However, further experience revealed beaches that were a better fit for our family with young children (namely, Mauna Kea and Waiamea). The beach is beautiful! Perfect... More

If you are staying on the Kohala Coast you must visit Hapuna Beach. It was our favorite beach by far - water was clear, warm and offered waves but not so big that kids had to avoid the water. There is lots of area on the sand for plenty of beachgoers, and they also have a nice picnic area which... More

This is the biggest beach we've visited so far on the Big Island. Nice facilities, adequate parking, soft sand, nice rolling waves, can't ask for much more. Nice beach for a relaxing day at beach, our favorite beach on this Island so far.

I swear this beach looks like a postcard. Was so beautiful. There are picnic areas you can bring lunch or they do have a concession stand. Bring those boogie boards waves are awesome. Lifeguard on duty!

Very pleasant beach, easy to find parking, and shade. Fun, gentle waves for body surfing. Bathrooms and shower close.

The Big Island is not known for it's beaches. But Hapuna is an excellent exception. At the North end of the beach, below the Hapuna Hotel, there is nice snorkeling. Many Tri-athletes use the bay for training swims. On some days there is a nice gentle surf for boogie boarding. Other days, it is calm and fun for all ages.... More
