Felt this was one of nicest beaches in area , only beach better was one at Mauna Kea Hotel but not much too choose between the two. Swimming was great, some snorkeling at little rock / reef in the middle of beach, saw turtles there.

This is nothing special, really. It's just a classic beach. There is no shade and it is usually crowded. I prefer smaller beaches with more shade and topographical variation (tide pools, rocks, etc.) I don't understand why everyone raves about it.

This is the Big Island's version of the classical beach. The sand is like brown sugar and the gently sloping shoreline makes it good for swimming and frolicking in the surf. This is a fairly large beach by Hawaii standards so while there is almost always a crowd here, there should still be plenty of room. It is a state... More

White sands, Turquoise water and waves just right for body surfing. One of the two best beaches I have ever visited. The other being Paradise beach in Playa del Carmen

This beach was probably an oasis 20 years ago. But everyone has heard about it and must go there. It is overcrowded and virtually ruined. There are so many better beaches up and down the coast. Go to the beach across from the Veterans memorial or at the Mauna Kea hotel. They are excellent and not that crowded.

This is a big, beautiful, white sand beach. It was well worth the $5 we had to pay for parking. There is lots of parking and lots of room on the beach. The washrooms, like every other washroom I've seen are this island, are absolutely disgusting. There are also really nice shaded picnic areas.

A great day trip from Hilo. There are different areas to the beach and lots of decent snorkeling. I will make many more trips here during my extended stay in Hilo.

Hapuna is one of many beautiful white sand beaches on the Kona side of the Big Island. There is a concession stand but it was closed for renovations when I visited in may. If you're up to it you can walk to Prince Kuhio or Mauna Kea for drinks and food. The water is crystal clear. There are a few... More

You will definitely enjoy this beach! But bring your own umbrella as there is no shade anywhere on the beach. They do a have a picnic shelter but it is quite a bit from the water. The waves are gentle but be aware of the currents.

We drove in to the park, $5 to park, not bad. You walk down hill. There is life guard stands a pavilion with picnic table and open beach of white sandy beach. You can see why its one the top ten in the world. The day we went on Wednesday was windy, so the sand was whipping a bit. Closer... More
