Hapuna Beach is such a gorgeous beach. Parking all-day is $5.00/car, with and in and out privileges. What's really nice is that there is a separate access road from the main parking lot that takes you down to another parking lot right by the beach for cars with accessible permits for those who are mobility challenged, using wheelchairs, etc. The... My 9 yr old daughter LOVED this beach!! We ended up there a few times. The sand is so fine and soft, not to mention the beach is quite big. It gets a little crowded, but if you get there in the morning or late afternoon it is perfect!

This beach is perfect for children: white sand, easily sculptable (bring your buckets), gentle slope down, and gentle surf on normal days (sometimes there is a high surf warning). The public park facilities are in great condition. Trees, lots of places to park and picnic, and clean bathrooms. Lifeguards until 5 pm. Ample outdoor showers for post-swim. There is a... More

Sure, its 30 miles north of Kona. But it is worth the drive. Went there 3 times on an 8 day trip to Kona. Lots of wide open sand. Very few rocks (as opposed to most other Kona area beaches). Crashing waves, sand castle building, people watching, boogie boarding, relaxing on the beach (and a good signal from ATT Wireless)

This is a beautiful beach - great place to spend the day snorkeling and boogie boarding. Bring beach chairs and a beach umbrella - there are freshwater showers close by but very little shade.

You can read the reviews and look at pictures, but it really won't prepare you for walking down from the parking lot and seeing the expanse of soft (HOT!) sand to your left and right, with the Pacific rolling (or crashing) into the sand. We visited in early August 2014, waves were 2-4 feet (this was right after Iselle visited... More

Our visit to the beach in the afternoon was perfect! The water was refreshing, and swimming the the large waves was a blast! The sand was beautiful, white, and fine. We watched the gorgeous sunset and ate dinner at the picnic tables by the shore. Once the sun set, the sky lit up with stars, and the entire experience was... More

We took our family with 2 small children (ages 5 & 9), and it was perfect. There were rocks and small caves to explore that were conveniently located to provide shade (until about noon). The water was pristine. The coral was located on the bay wall (about a 3 minute walk), was loaded with colorful fish and we saw a... More

We loved this beach, clean, facilities, nice waves, water was clean and clear. Not a lot of boogie boarders to mow you over.

For each time I have been to the big island, we never miss going to Hapuna. Love the sand, love the waves, love the people, love the view and they have descent amenities. One suggestion is get there early so you can find a spot, because this beach fills up mid-morning. Side note: $5 dollar parking/state park fee. (It is... More
