Nestled in the heart of south western Ontario's Lambton County, and framed by Lake Huron and the St. Clair River, Petrolia is known as "The Greatest Town on Earth". Its unique history as the cradle of the global oil industry is complimented by its countless lush green parks, grand church spires and colourful gardens.Enjoy all the unique shops, restaurants, beautiful bed and breakfasts and of course, the renowned Victoria Playhouse Petrolia. The 400 seat, state of the art theatre is housed in Victoria Hall, one of the most architecturally impressive buildings in the county.About the Victoria Playhouse Petrolia Victoria Playhouse is a gem of a theatre located in the Victoria Hall in Petrolia, just 3 hours from Toronto, 1 hour from London, 1 1/2 hours from Detroit and 20 minutes from Sarnia in Ontario or Port Huron right across the border in Michigan, USA. The Playhouse, just like the legendary Phoenix, has literally risen from its own ashes after the devastating fire of January 1989. Situated in Ontario's first oil town and after having provided a venue for theatre productions for over 100 years, Victoria Playhouse is now a modern, fully equipped, state-of-the-art, 425 seats, air-conditioned facility. Victoria Playhouse Petrolia Echoing the oil “boom” that started in this town at the turn of the century, we “boomed” from 1996 to 2002 with exciting, original and fun summer playbills!

On a warm Friday evening, we sit comfortably in Petrolia’s attractive Victoria Hall, enjoying Neil Simon’s popular play, The Odd Couple. It's a classic Simon play, well performed and received by the audience. This is a Canadian National Historic Site, originally a fire hall, municipal office, police hall, jail and opera house, completed in 1889 for $35 000, designed in... More

Just attended the 'Starbright Christmas' musical Nov.29-13 and previously the 'Hollywood Sings' musical and both were excellent with several of the same awesome singers. Very professional productions and entertainers. Friendly staff & many are volunteers who are rightly proud of this gem.

I have been to the playhouse several times. Like any theatre, some of the shows are wonderful some are less than. However, the venue is lovely and the staff, both volunteer and paid are remarkable. I would recommend an excursion there anytime.

We come here to see the shows in the summer. We always sit in the front row in the balcony. We like the birds eye view on the stage. The place is really clean and classy. The building is beautiful and most of the shows are so much fun to watch. Get the odd show that we are not impressed... More

This small town in southern Ontario has a lot going in it's favor. A rich oil history, very nice people and a great playhouse! The playhouse is the big draw and for good reason,it's located in a beautiful old building with new seating and a great lineup of plays, plus excellent actor's and actresses. We saw "The Odd Couple" and it... More

We have just come home from seeing a comedy at the Victoria Playhouse in Petrolia. It was a well known Neil Simon classic "The Odd Couple", When one thinks of a small town theatre one also thinks of semi-amatuer of not amatuer performers and performances. The tone and quality of the actors and the professionalism of supporting members was superb.... More

We saw our friend's daughter in Les Miserables. The Playhouse is well appointed and historic. You could even get a glass of wine between acts.

Being a small town you would not expect Petrolia to have this level of theatre. This was my first time at the theatre and we were lucky enough to see Ralph Waite and Michael Learned in "Love Letters". The venue itself is excellent. Seating was good and the bar/public space was large. Staff very friendly and helpful. We are already... More

Not a bad seat in the house, great to have this venue in the community. Sometimes the ticket price does not match the level of entertainment but happy to support the arts.

The venerable Victoria Playhouse Petrolia has had quite a history (and nearly did not survive a fire in the late eighties). Yet now with the efforts of David Hogan and David Rogers of Starbright it is bringing the best of regional theatre to this delightful small town. Last season we saw two productions. The incredible Godspell that saw a young... More
