Caroni Swamp and the Scarlet Ibis is a must for any visit to Trinidad, and we thankfully ended up going with Sean Madoo on our visit. He is a really friendly and knowledgeable guide. He was able to spot many animals that the other boats missed (silky anteater, boa, etc), and from so far away! He has a great gift... More

Went on this trip last week, Shawn collected us from the Hilton and took us back, which is worth doing IMO. We saw some snakes, tree crabs, birds of varying types that I cannot remember, egrets and the Scarlett Ibis. These latter were not that numerous and I was somewhat disappointed but that's not Shawn's fault, he can't control the... More

All the pros and cons about this trip are adequately covered in the traveller reviews preceeding this one. What struck us and made this trip so enjoyable amd memorable was the guide/owner Shaun whose knowledge is vast and enthusiasm truly palpable (the only negative is that he is so enthused about the sights/birds that sometimes he speaks too fast for... This tour was one of the highlights of our trip! Really enjoyed the smaller, faster boat over the big wide-beamed barges of the other tour operators. The guide was funny and personable, and also incredibly knowledgeable about the swamp, the wildlife, and the country at large. And wow did he have an eagle eye! He could spot a tiny hummingbird... An unforgettable experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable and adept at spotting wildlife, so in addition to the many birds seen, we were also treated to two(!) silky anteaters and a Cook's tree boa. The guide frequently stopped the engine so we could have a good look, and disturb the birds less. The boats are wide in the beam and... More

If you are interested in natural history and in the beauty of the swamp, Madoo's offers a much more intimate tour (less chance of noisy boat-mates who can disturb the wildlife and the serenity) than the other operator (Nanan's) and is definitely worth the slightly higher cost. Having tried both several times over the last few years I now always... More

Seeing the flocks of scarlet ibis as they return to their roosting island is thrilling. We were very happy with the service provided by Madoo's. We arranged our transportation from Port of Spain with them. The driver, Chris, was courteous and punctual. Cost, return for transport was $300TT. Our guide, Darren, was pleasant and professional. Madoo's say that they keep... More

Small company .... big tour Took this tour last year with Shawn and he was not available to tour this time, but assured me his brother is just as good. Darren it was wonderful touring with you, and Shawn thanks for stopping by to visit. Once again, you really know how to make my the best out of my adventure.... More

If you've been in mangroves and swamps and have done this sort of tour before, this one can be skipped, unless your interest is seeing the Ibis'. Those moments are quite good. As a lifelong snake keeper and having a taxidermist friend, I can say for certain that the snakeskin in the tree was placed there, and I'm very, very... More

Experience the flora and fauna of one of Trinidad's protected wildlife sites in a comfortable setting with excellent tour guides. There are other operators of bird tours at this reserve but Madoo's had a smaller boat with very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating tour guide which lent to a more intimate and satisfied tour. Take the advise of a local and... More
