This whole walled village is frozen in time. The views are spectacular and the little town is splendid. If you have a chance to visit, do so.

This little village lost in the mountains is a living memory of the medieval times. Very well preserved and clean, it's a must see to who loves castles, history and the medieval era. Inside the walls you can find Restaurant, gift shop, coffee and even a school :) Totally recommend place to visit, a must see.

We stopped over in Sortelha on a cycling trip and spend the night in a cottage close to the castle. What I really liked was that it was not overrun with tourists and we could walk around the castle walls and old town at leisure. The restaurant with medieval menu was unfortunately closed.... Great little town to visit.

Sortelha, a ancient Portuguese village in the middle of nowhere, is like a painted card! Everything is so cute, so lovely. Do a walk through the old village, along the small streets and big walls! Lunch at that fantastic restaurant, D. Sancho I.

This is a very beautiful peculiar small village where you can find an ancient castle, rock houses, and other landmarks. It's classified, along with other such villages of Portugal's central region as an Historical Village. You can find restaurants, cafes, gift shops and accommodation. From this village you can visit in an hour or so drive a lot of other... More

a magical place, a village made of stone high on a hilltop, amazing views from all around. the walls are still there and the whole place is almost stopped in time, you could close your eyes and see the medieval peasants and witches coming out of the tiny houses. one of the most well kept stone villages in Portugal, not... Very nice and tiny old town, hidden between the hills, with impressive walls and a small castle, with a very nice restaurant in front of it.

I drove up and over the mountain from Guarda via Quarta-Feira... truly a wonderful drive, the rocks alone are worth it. The village of Sortelha is built with the rocks in mind, the paths up and around are often rock or steps cut in to rock, the homes are built around and among the rocks. The view from the wall... I think the town was a typical but very nice fortress town, but I would go back to Sortelha just to go back to Restaurante Dom Sancho - the first restaurant once you pull into the walled gate on the right. We pulled in late at night in off season, out of gas and no hotel. We were the only... More

Castelo De Sortelha is a small fortress town with impressive walls. Enter through one gate and leave through the other one. Walk on the wall (carefully) and enjoy the scenery towards Spain. Stroll among the small houses that are build in the granite rocks in an altitude of 760 meters. You will probably meet some of the few old nice... More
