Educating and impressive!

A must if you are in the area! A fantastically interesting place and impressive rock carvings. A good walk on nice paths will also take you to burial mounds from the bronze age.

We made a stop there on our way from Stockholm to Oslo. The rock carvings are very interesting, located very near the highway and then you only have to walk some minutes. If you have time you can also visit nearby museum.

This is one of the most interesting and well managed pre-historic settlements i have ever visited. It's really worth the visit, even though we had to detour for some hundreds of km en route to Oslo from Stockholm. Apart from the sense of absolute serenity and calm isolation, the site offers the well preserved rock carvings, a UNESCO certified sight,... More

We loved the museum and the short hike to the rock art panels. Each panel offered some interpretation, as much as it is possible to interpret this part of our human history. The trails were well maintained and marked. This is a fantastic educational and fun destination for all age groups. I highly recommend a visit or several - you... More

There is a nice visitor center / museum where you can start your journey back to 3000 BC. The museum itself is not really interesting but children can have fun there. The rock carvings are for all people who are a bit interested in history / archeology / cavemen :) And it's completely free! One good advice: since the carvings are... More

This is a fantastic area outdoors where you can walk through impressive history. Lots of carvings from the stone age area. Kids loved it, and so did we. This is especially a good trip if the weather is fine. Nice museums buildings as well.

To doodle has never seen so easy - but given the thought that thees drawings are made in stone and made ages ago makes the thought wander. Set in beautiful surroundings at the north of the swedish west coast this is a perfect stop before heading to the beach. A great little museum with a small but excellent cafe and... More

First and above of all the carvings on the other side of the main road are spectacular. But also the surroundings' landscape and Vitlycke museum close to the parking area are very much worth a visit. Several kilometers away from the site, you are able to find very nice spots and even carvings in the surroundings, especially when using geocaching.... More

We visited this site knowing the rocks had been painted. It is a little off putting to see them outlined this way, especially in red. But I didn't find it to be awful. it did help greatly with the definition of the images. The walk from site to site is relaxing following the trails through the woods. One of the... More
