Hinton Ampner is first and foremost a garden. It has an excellent kitchen garden, several different ornamental areas and some estate walks with fine views - one of which we did on this most recent visit. Part of the house is also open but it is currently undergoing roof repairs. It is worth coming here at different times of the... More

i visited the house and garden early March, didn't feel at a loss despite a large portion being under wraps in preparation for the roof work, enjoyed seeing the chandeliers being cleaned, and benefitted from the tour of Ralph Duttons room by a pleasant guide. Beautifully landscaped garden, can imagine will be even lovelier in full bloom. Have agreed with... More

This looks like a lovely place although we didn't go in!!! We were very shocked by the £25 charge to have an unguided walk in the grounds! I recognise the need to raise funds and maintain gardens but I thought this was a bit steep when the house and gardens are surrounded by free walks on the wayfarers way and... More

Absolutely lovely house and beautiful surroundings, with a lot of history. However I was let down by one of the National Trust staff as we found her extremely rude. I wanted to take some photos, so as we went in, I asked one of the volunteers if I could take photos and she said it would be fine. Then another... More

Having seen a couple of other houses set up for Xmas, we saw on the NT site that Hinton Ampner had been "dressed" for Xmas so we drove down to have a look. The house is a beautiful building that had some really fascinating parts to visit. I understand that some of it is temporarily closed for repair but this... More

Visited Sat 13th Dec. In essence, Hinton Ampner house was simply stunning oozing with a tradition Nutcracker theme. The attention to detail of every one of the amazing rooms decorated with the Nutcracker's story is breath taking. Everywhere you looked, there was something beautiful and cleverly designed and executed. Well done to all the staff and volunteers who obviously worked... More

The Nutcracker theme to the ground floor rooms is absolutely fantastic! The imagination and execution is brilliant. It almost brought a tear to my eye. I first realised that we were looking at a set of displays that had such loving care poured into it when I saw the large Christmas cracker on the table with a beautiful, explosive flower... More

We visited today and it was very busy. My two children loved the table full of sweets . Very small cafe and we gave up with the queue. The children loved running around the garden. We paid 5 pounds each for them to go into Father Christmas 's storytime where a very young Father Christmas read them the story of the... More

Loved the Christmas Nutcracker display this year with all the mice, rats and sweets. Lovey flower arrangements but shame the upstairs is closed because of the roof damage. Get there early as it gets very busy. The restaurant has a very poor selection for lunch (very disappointed) and not much room to sit as the tables quickly get filled up.... More
