A typical Irish pub with sawdust on the floor. All geared to the tourist. Pleasant pub with good atmosphere.

We were walking round Athlone and decided a beer was in order and called in for one here. We had no idea of it's history etc., so we came upon a gem by accident. It's a great bar, not over priced and just lovely to sit and chill, either in the bar or the beer garden. We sat in the... More

Paul the owner sat with us, explained the history up to his purchase. Helped us get lunch and get us on our way. A little tricky getting in and out off the motorway due to to traffic and Irish roads but worth it. Budweiser on tap for the americanphiles in our group. A good stop overall.

One of the nicest pints of the black stuff ever tasted. If you like your Irish pub this is a must MUST visit. Top marks all round.

I have to admit: I was there twice but it was always durind Paddy's weekends in different occasions. The atmosphere is excellent, there is good live music and Guinness beer flows. Service is as good as it can be for such a crowded place and atmosphere is relaxed, sometimes you really feel you're in a small town as everyone seems... More

DO NOT GO TO THIS BAR. I REPEAT, DO NOT GO TO THIS BAR. Bar man was rude and had dirty hands. When I went to order a drink he just stared at me, no 'what can I get you' or 'what're you having' nothing. Took the 30 euro from me for a round of drinks & then (and only... More

We took the bus from Dublin for the day just to go here. The drinks were reasonably priced and the owner was nice. Bar is very typical Irish style with a fireplace that was even going in summer. They also had a very nice beer garden. The main reason you should go here is because this is the oldest pub... More

Sean's claims to be the oldest pub in Europe but it's right on today. Great Guinness, good crack and traditional music. If in Athlone don't miss it.

We discovered Sean's purely by accident (the best way to discover anything really). We were having a drink at a random pub in Dublin and an old-timer regular customer "Timmy" (yes, that was his name) started asking about our trip and plans. He mentioned Sean's as being the oldest pub in all of Ireland...so, of course, we had to drop... More
