Just visiting Athlone and going to Sean's Bar, founded in 900 AD, is exiting. Trying their Irish coffee while enjoying that calm, warm, full of history environment...was a great experience. Do not miss that spot, worth visiting.

This place was recommended to us by a lady in a local shop so with retail therapy out of the way early thanks to a great thirst and great Easter weather we headed for its beer garden suntrap and enjoyed every minute (hour) of it :-). We returned for the music at 10pm which is live everyday of the week.... More

Great live music and ambient in the oldest pub in Ireland. The place was very crowded however we don't mind that, we even enjoyed it in places like this one. Good beer and live music both inside and in the beer garden outside. Good place to visit.

Definitely worth a visit to see Ireland's oldest pub and have a pint!!!! It's a small bar and fills up quickly at night. We called in on a Saturday night, and it was filled with a mix of cultures.

We stopped in Athlone on our drive from Dublin to Galway. We arrived at Sean's Bar for lunch just after opening. It was just us and a local at the bar. There was a fire going which felt great coming in from the cold rain. The owner explained how things work-if you want to eat only, you go next door... More

Guinness in Sean's Bar this last weekend was excellent. Customers and staff alike were very friendly and relaxed. It's a little cosy with the number of customers but no one seems to mind! Hope to visit the oldest bar in Ireland again soon.

After being informed by a good friend from Ireland that this was a must stop of course I insisted that I stop here while traveling with my friend. We had such a good time. We were only there for an hour, and it was seriously one of the highlights of my trip. The bartender was hysterical, all the negative reviews,... More

I love going into Sean especially during the day when its not too busy. It has some of my favorite beers on tap and the staff are friendly. I also love the saw dust on the ground and the open fire and the wide range of items to look at hanging around the place. Theres also a great smoking area... More
