Right on the River Shannon, near the Athlone Castle are the boats docked for the tours. They will take your cash once the boat is under way. (10 euros each). The tour takes about an hour & heads under the bridge towards the Lough Ree & return. Along the way, the Captain points out interesting sites and shares the history... More

We went for a cruise to Lough Ree. Our group was mainly parents and children. Every seemed to enjoy it and the kids loved the chance to drive the boat. The on board bar/shoo was well stocked with a great range of beers (not just Guinness). The tour guide was a little dull and could of been a bit more... More

Interesting tour of the lovely Shannon and Lough Ree. Boat was unique. The friendly skipper gave a running commentary on the local history and nature. Child and tourist friendly. Great value trip at €10 !

Lovely relaxing trip with Viking tours today and a great view of Clonmacnoise as we left for Athlone. All 34 of us had a great time☺. Michael has a great fund of knowledge; about the river, the flora, fauna and the history of the area which he delivers in a friendly and enjoyable way. It was great fun. Will go... More

My wife and I were fortunate enough to be in Athlone on the day the Clonmacnoise boat trip was on as well as the Hodsons Bay trip in the other direction, so of course we did them both, at a discounted price for the combo. Fares are taken on board and it is cash only - no card. Our first,... More

Went on a trip to clonmacnoise with Viking tours. Was absolutely fantastic fun for everyone. The captain and his crew mate were really informative and eager to answer all our questions. We would definitely do it again and probably will soon!

Very informative tour - lasts about 1.5 hours for the $25.00 one and I learned so much about Newport after 40 years of going there!

This is an excellent trip, great boat, Michael, the owner is very knowledgeable about all the wildlife on the river and the Lough. We had a quick word with Michael at the end of trip. The boat is 1923 and is clearly a labour of love considering the upkeep each year. Well done to Michael and crew--thoroughly recommended
