I took a small coach party to Athlone for a football game, and booked the river cruise as something to do before the match for the group. Booking with "Viking Mike" was easy, an exchange of emails being sufficient to reserve places on the noon tour. I was very pleasantly surprised when I arrived - I hadn't really known what... More

It was lovely to travel to Clonmacnoise by boat on the Shannon and the experience was very much enhanced by the way in which Michael and his son looked after everyone. The commentary was most interesting and informative. It is not on every trip that the passengers are offered sunblock, binoculars to use , books on the wildlife of the... More

I'm the director of Study Abroad Ireland, part of Mesa Community College's international education program. We use Athlone as our base of operations in Ireland, and we've had the great fortune to take "Captin" Mike's Viking boat to Clonmacnoise every summer for the past 10 years. Both educational and relaxing, I cannot recommend this little excursion more highly! Don't miss... More

We had a most enjoyable trip from Athlone to Hodson Bay on our school tour. Michael gave a running commentary on all the sights along the way. Tea and coffee available. Snack shop too. Blankets and cushions and lots of comfortable seating on board.

Nice, spacious boat. Complimentary tea and coffee. Beautiful scenery. Very good for kids. Not so exciting for a group of adults, but a nice way to pass an afternoon.

I took a group of EF European students on the Viking Boat on Friday 30.05.2014. I have to say living in Athlone my whole life I thought I might be boring for me. How wrong I was. Michael and his shipmate really made it an experience not to be forgotten. Michael filled us with historic information on all the landmarks... More
