We went to Baltimore with a plan to get the ferry to Oileáin Cléire but we missed it so took the ferry to Sherkin Island instead. We weren't sorry as we spent a lovely relaxing sunny day on the island. The ferry trip is only €10 return and takes around fifteen minutes, whereas the same day the trip to Oiléain... More

Take the 10 min ferry ride from Baltimore to lovely Sherkin Island. A 30 min walk along a country road spilling over with wild roses, ferns and fuchia gets you to a fantastic beach on the Atlantic Ocean.

Gorgeous island. Worth a stop over at least. Took the ferry from Baltimore (10 minutes). Check out the islanders rest for lunch and amazing views from the beer garden.

Lovely spot for a stroll, beautiful quiet beaches and fabulous scenery. We were here midweek, on a sunny day, so it was very quiet. Just the way you want it when you're out here. Well worth the 10 minute trip on the ferry from Baltimore.

Short boat trip over to the island, if you're in to long distance walking and scenery then you will enjoy it! There is a bar with a nice view and a beach which is 1.5 mile walk from the ferry dock, enjoyable, wear decent shoes and a waterproof coat, watch out for the cows!

We spent allmost a week there anchored off the island. Very friendly lokals and the old pub is very nice. Some of the ladies on the island hand knit lovely woolen jerseys. Highly recommended for sailors especially. Ferry to Baltimore

A very short boat trip from Baltimore [dogs allowed] took us to Sherkin Island. A fabulously quiet place to roam and explore, two gorgeous beaches and lots of rocky coves. We had a small bay all to ourselves. Take a packed lunch though as food on the Island can be a little expensive especially for a family. Stop by the... More

Sherkin is a stunning inshore island just off the coast & reached in about 10mins by frequent ferry from Baltimore - foot passengers only as there are no roads wide enough on the island to allow cars to pass each other. Complete with the ruins of a 13th century Franciscan Friary, Sherkin is totally charming even on an autumn day.... More

On a fine summer day where else in the world would you want to be heading, this is the place of my teens the haven of peace, the place where troubles fade away.It is easy to get to take the N 71 west from Cork City until you reach Skibbereen, follow the traffic flow and watch for the signs that say Baltimore...
