We spent allmost a week there anchored off the island. Very friendly lokals and the old pub is very nice. Some of the ladies on the island hand knit lovely woolen jerseys. Highly recommended for sailors especially. Ferry to Baltimore

A very short boat trip from Baltimore [dogs allowed] took us to Sherkin Island. A fabulously quiet place to roam and explore, two gorgeous beaches and lots of rocky coves. We had a small bay all to ourselves. Take a packed lunch though as food on the Island can be a little expensive especially for a family. Stop by the... More

Sherkin is a stunning inshore island just off the coast & reached in about 10mins by frequent ferry from Baltimore - foot passengers only as there are no roads wide enough on the island to allow cars to pass each other. Complete with the ruins of a 13th century Franciscan Friary, Sherkin is totally charming even on an autumn day.... More

On a fine summer day where else in the world would you want to be heading, this is the place of my teens the haven of peace, the place where troubles fade away.It is easy to get to take the N 71 west from Cork City until you reach Skibbereen, follow the traffic flow and watch for the signs that say Baltimore... As the title claims it's a gorgeous little island with a beautiful ruined friary. ,sadly the coffee at the Islanders Rest Hotel left a lot to be desired, especially coffee.

I absolutely adore this island, it is so beautiful, you can get the ferry over from Baltimore, think it cost €5 each way. You can text a number on the morning you are going over and the ferry will send you back the times of the ferry for that day. Once on the island you can walk around it or... More

My partner and I visited Sherkin Island during October 2013 and it was great day, beautiful panoramic views of the North Alantic Ocean and we visited the Islander's Rest for a pint and had look through their little Museum of Sherkin Island that they have. All in all a great day trip to do if your down in Baltimore.

If you want a quiet weekend away, from mobile and everyday life, this is the place to go. I have gone here so many times and I have never been disappointed. Food is amazing also. They have Chef's from everywhere. Great for a couple retreat, hen weekend, family vacation, it's big enough they can cater for all. Great place!

Beautiful, magical island. The ferry from Baltimore brings you here in 10 minutes or so. Its just beautiful. Bring your own backpack with water and snacks/lunch as there seems to be just the one place on the island that serves food. The terrain isn't too difficult and could be mastered by the average walker. This island is well worth visiting.
