Bantry House and Garden is a stately home in southwest Ireland situated right on Bantry Bay with panoramic views of the bay and the caha mountains. The estate is owned by Egerton and Brigitte Shelswell-White and is managed by their daughter Sophie and her partner Josh. It has been in the family since the 1700s. The house contains original furniture and objects d'art. The garden is laid out over 7 terraces with a fountain, large wisteria circle and 100 steps leading up to the woodland. The house, garden and tearoom is open to the public daily from easter to october. The estate hosts weddings, music festivals and fairs. We have a separate review page for our B&B accommodation.

is one of my favorite views of all the places we went to in Ireland. The house has seen better days, but the gardens were pretty. This was an unplanned stop and I'm so glad we visited Bantry House.

Dear ontheroadagain65 thank you for your kind review. Lovely to hear from people who did not plan to stop with us and had a great spontaneous day with us! That view from the top of the steps really is very special. Best wishes, Sophie Shelswell-White More

The family that own Bantry House are selling a lot of the best items that have been collected over the centuries and for this reason the house and the grounds are not as they once were but there is still a fee to enter.

We stopped here for lunch, and had an enjoyable lunch in the house. Good service, good menu, good wine. We then took a self-guided tour of the house, which is well worth doing. Some interesting history and furnishings with rooms decorated in an interesting way. Then the gardens are worth a look also. Altogether a good stop.

Thank you for your review. We hope to offer as much value for money as we can for a private house. We are sitiuated in a stunning location with the late 18th century house full of original content and a garden that was designed and planted in the mid 19th century. Perhaps you should visit again and see the changes... More

The tour of the house and gardens was simply fab. The welcoming fire in the great hall with the black and white floor was heaven.

To see historic furniture of such high quality and tapestries that were made for Marie Antoinette is a real treat. This place is fascinating and has been in the same family for ten generations. Well worth visiting and going out of your way to see. There's an excellent guide book they give you when you arrive, in whatever language you... More

Beautiful Gardens, manicured to perfection. The views are worth the visit alone looking over the bay and taking in the history. Every trip to Bantry I end up here, such a beautiful location, highly recommend

Absolutely beautiful house and garden. Sadly the house and furniture show signs of a lack of maintenance and upkeep. Probably short of funds.
