Description: Bantry House and Garden is a stately home in southwest Ireland situated...
Bantry House and Garden is a stately home in southwest Ireland situated right on Bantry Bay with panoramic views of the bay and the caha mountains. The estate is owned by Egerton and Brigitte Shelswell-White and is managed by their daughter Sophie and her partner Josh. It has been in the family since the 1700s. The house contains original furniture and objects d'art. The garden is laid out over 7 terraces with a fountain, large wisteria circle and 100 steps leading up to the woodland. The house, garden and tearoom is open to the public daily from easter to october. The estate hosts weddings, music festivals and fairs. We have a separate review page for our B&B accommodation.

This is a beautiful house in a fabulous setting looking out over Bantry Bay Co Cork. Guided tours are available and gardens are absolutely beautiful. Bantry Chamber Music Festival has held wonderful recitals in the house and the musical theme is continued throughout the year.

We came to Ireland for a wedding and stopped in on Bantry House on a whim as we drove from Balitmore to Limerick. Thank heavens we did!!! This is without a doubt the most spectacular heritage house I've ever seen in Australia, the UK or Ireland. The gardens are just mind blowing but it's the view from the estate that... More

Beautiful home from days gone by. The gardens are lovely and the see view is amazing. Family still owns and lives in the home. The little cafe on site has wonderful food. Go for the the guided tour! Glad we took the time to see this house and property.

My wife and I on our first visit to the area visited the garden (not the house, apart from the room used as a cafe). Even so, we thought the admission charge - which did inlcude accessible parts of the house - very reasonable and good value. The grounds slope down towards the Bantry Bay area at the front of... We took the guided tour of the house and found it very informative on the history of both the family and the house. It was well-presented and we were able to wander the home freely after the guided tour which was nice. The third floor was open for a painting exhibition do we were able to go up despite it... More

The setting of this house is the main attraction and its gardens and walk up the 100 steps to the views of the house and gardens overlooking Bantry Bay are spectacular. Inside the house has some interest but is in need of restoration. For those used to splendour of most National Trust houses in the UK this is a disappointment... More

Dear Muskur thank you for your review and for visiting recently. We are a privately run and owned house unlike National Trust properties and although I know they do a wonderful job I would not like to compare us to them. We have a long restoration programme which is funded by visitors either to the house and garden, B&B and... More

Overlooking the beautiful bay of Bantry is the house and Gardens. An old house dating back to the 1700's may interest those who don't see this kind of thing too often, but for Irish and UK travellers it holds nothing new and to be perfectly frank is wheeeey over priced. You can visit the gardens for a fiver or both... More

Dear gcadogan thank you for visiting and for reviewing. I can only take the positive from it and at least you thought the estate was pretty. Sadly that does not come with out large outgoings and since we are completely privately owned and funded our prices may be higher then other state run historic properties. Although my family own Bantry... More
