Bantry House and Garden is a stately home in southwest Ireland situated right on Bantry Bay with panoramic views of the bay and the caha mountains. The estate is owned by Egerton and Brigitte Shelswell-White and is managed by their daughter Sophie and her partner Josh. It has been in the family since the 1700s. The house contains original furniture and objects d'art. The garden is laid out over 7 terraces with a fountain, large wisteria circle and 100 steps leading up to the woodland. The house, garden and tearoom is open to the public daily from easter to october. The estate hosts weddings, music festivals and fairs. We have a separate review page for our B&B accommodation.

If you can only see a single Irish Manor House on a visit to Ireland, this is the one! It's setting above the Bantry Bay even on a cloudy day is stunning! Take time to wander through the gardens, take in the view from all of the various parts of the ground and enjoy the tour of the house. We... More

We visited the Bantry House at the end of the day. It was worth it to be a little later in the day. There were few people there, thus we had better photo ops. Take the time to tour the house, We really liked it. We would have booked a room there if we would have known how lovely it... More

On the slopes above the town of Bantry, located on Bantry Bay, West Co Cork you will discover Bantry House which is the ancestral home of the Earls of Bantry. Although the title Earl of Bantry has lapsed towards at the star of the 1890s in 1891 the house remains in the ownership of the direct descendants of the 1st... More

We went in winter time so the house was not open. This did not affect our experience in the least. We had the place to explore to ourselves and loved walking through the gardens and making our way to the top of the back stairs which ended themselves to the most breathtaking views of Bantry Bay. Wool recommend this stop... More

Visited this beautiful place one wet Sunday in Oct. Had rung ahead to ensure there were still house tours going ahead and was told there was. On arrival we were charged 11euro (expensive) each and told there was no tour guide we had to "self guide" ourselves around which was extremely disappointing. The house is not in a good state... We enjoyed a great day at Bantry House & Garden. They have lovely trees, shrubs and plants which are all cultivated organically. We loved the maze and the chickens!

We were warned that this Georgian mansion definitely needed restoration work. It is privately owned and the family still lives in one wing. Trying to maintain a place like this in the 21st century must be a daunting task. They are working at it. When we were there (September 2015) there was scaffolding up on the north side so they... A visit to this place and the house of the first earl of Bantry built around the 1700's is stepping back in time. The gardens and the surroundings is such a relaxing place especially the front yard with the view of the Bay. Take the stair steps in the garden to see a better view of the bay and the... More
