Kinsale, 18 miles south of Cork city, a beautiful harbor and breathtaking views. We have spent half a day enjoying Kinsale but I would recommend a full day. This historical town was the scene of the siege in 17th century in which the Spanish troops took over the town to help the Irish against Queen Elizabeth. Picturesque harbor, you can... More

We went on Dermot Ryan's tour early on Wednesday 9 July. I have to say that this was one of the best historical tours we have ever been on! Dermot's local knowledge, pride and obvious love of his town shone through, and made this tour for us. We also found him humorous and very affable, able to adapt his talk... More

Dermot brings the history of the town to life in a very enjoyable way. The heritage walk is informative, but also extremely entertaining, a truly unique experience that I highly recommend. Kinsale is a fantastic place to visit and this tour is the icing on the cake.

I was with a small group and we did the Dermot Ryan Heritage Walk and found it to be excellent. The walk and times can be found at the tourist information office on Pier Road in the center of town. Dermot did a wonderful job. Sincerely, Paul Shea

At breakfast, it didn't look like a good day to explore Kinsale by taking a walking tour with Mr. Ryan (with the rain pouring down), but luckily he is a hardier fellow than the 'other guys' who give tours of this wonderful seaside burg (who canceled their tour for the day), as he was at the prearranged meeting time right... Kinsale The soft warm drizzle barely kissed our cheeks as we walked the shoreline in the early morning. Oystercatchers stalked the water’s edge in gangs plundering the shellfish population. Sea anemones gestured seductively in the rockpools that lay among the weed festooned rocks. A sudden movement caught our eye up on the field above the tide line. A hare streaked... More

The walking tour of Kinsale not only added perspective of the local history, but really the history of Ireland overall. Even with the rain that day (he even had extra umbrellas for people) it was informative, though the rain, heavy at times, made it less relaxing as we all tried to stay dry. Dermot Ryan was very knowledgeable and easy... More

Dermont Ryan is the most knowledgeable historian of Kinsale, Ireland ever! Not only was the tour full of incredible wonderful history and events it was so personalized. He even provided umbrellas if needed. The best was even after the tour Dermont took time to another day to sit with me to discuss the history of Kinsale for a book I... More
