Could not get into the Park to drive around as this was closed due to tree felling until June 2014. The scenery is this area is breath taking . A visit to St Finbarr's Monestary (Oratiory) or small church out in the Lake on a little island. The Church has some lovely stained glass windows, and just behind the Church... More

This is an area myself and family love to visit to get away from everyday hustle of life. It is peaceful quiet and can be visited any time of the year weather permitting, just ensure you have good clothing and footwear. Various paths can be walked with differing degrees of difficulty, you can even bring your car for a small fee, though to... More

This is a fantastic forest park, with plenty parking and walks. It holds the source of the river Lee, which supplies Cork city. There is a beautiful tiny church on the lake, well worth a visit. You'll certainly work up an appetite here, and go home far healthier and fitter!!

I had seen many pictures of this area but was blown away firstly how accessible it is and also by how stunning this area is. We arrived on a misty rainy October morning with a storm off the west coast. That still didn't spoil the view. Bring some good boots and jackets before walking as the weather can change quickly.... This was a highlight of our trip to Ireland! On the recommendation of a hotel concierge we changed our route to make a stop here; what luck! There is an ancient chapel on a tiny island that is charming; the drive through the forest is magical! Can't say enough about this! Be sure to stop at the Hotel Gougane Barra;... More

A great place to hike! Lots of trails of varying difficulty. Beautiful, picturesque landscape so don't forget a good camera. There is a restaurant just before the entrance of the park which had great sandwiches and made for a great picnic inside the park. We loved it so much, we went twice during our week trip.

Gougane Barra is where I always take my visiting friends and family when they want to enjoy some stunning scenery. It is on our doorstep and one has the choice of either paying five euro to enter by vehicle or going on foot which is free. There are wonderful walks though for the less able it would be better to...
