beautiful peaceful area with a lake full of trout .Top class hotel on lake shore with a renowned restaurant. Also a cafe with all home made produce overlooking the lake and mountains.

If you visit Cork and Kerry, this place is a must. Scenery, historic monuments, forest walks and if you are energetic, real mountain walks. We made a high level circuit of the valley and lake, challenging but amazing. A year ago we made a circular exploration of the forest and rivers and watched the party arrive for a wedding in... Love this place, have visited many many times while holidaying in the area...area is of outstanding beauty and the setting with the church standing alongside the lake and surrounded by the high escarpments is truly enchanting and almost mystical. Rooted in Irish history associated with St Finbarr establishing a monastery on an island in the lake in the sixth century...... More

the park is lightly visited and a bit off the beaten track. Trails range from easy to moderately challenging.

Great for walking -plenty of different walks to choose from and beautifully quiet too. The paths are safe and dry so the weather conditions don't matter too much. But I would recommend the Gougane Barra Hotel for rest and recuperation after the walk.

We enjoyed a nice walk in the forest as the sun rose through the trees. Few people around so it was quiet and peaceful.

I went with 2 other photographers from Kilkenny. I had never visited previously although I had seen photos of the chapel & lake. Once into the park it gets better. We climbed the waterfall walk and the mountain trail. It almost seems man made with streams meandering throughout the woods and ancient moss-covered walls. The waterfall was great and it... More

We actually visited the historic early Christian church at Gougane Barra (associated with St. Finbarr, the first bishop of Cork) rather than the forest park itself, but the whole locality is beautiful and well worth a visit.

Now this place is a sight to delight. I won't go into the history of the place except to say that it stretches back into ancient island. There is a tiny church on the edge of the lake. A very old one but kept in prefect condition. In fact it is used for weddings very frequently. The vista is just... More

I am speechless but of course in a positive way. This place has something magic! There is a special atmosphere! I can't describe it! I have never been in a place like this! It's a little bit far from Cork City but it really worth a visit!!!!
