This was the first stop in a family golf trip. We had two caddies reserved and there were none. The Professional was very nice but his assistant that checked us in was not forthcoming with general information about the club house and driving range card needs, etc. This is an opportunity for the Pro to train his staff. The golf... More

On the week of the 22nd of July I attended as Captain of the Munster Senior Golf team for the Interprovincial Championships. I have never been there before. On approach to this golf club you can see that you are in genuine Links Country. As the days went bye and the Competitions progressed I came to like the place even... More

Played it about three years ago. It was great then and just when you think you can't improve on perfection they managed to do it? Looks like they are paying closer attention to detail in taking care of the course. Looks like the bar area and clubhouse were spiffed up, too. If you want a true test of links golf... More

For some strange reason I had never played the Island over the years. It is quite simply one of the finest links courses in Ireland. For the most part, each hole is individually framed by the high dunes, and the undulations of the fairway challenge your lies in the way the best courses should. I highly recommend it not to... More

Played on Saturday 22nd February 2014. What a welcome! The pro is first class and looked after us with a welcome my friend and I have never received before. Explained the course, hired me clubs (as left mine in Scotland), even left a pint of Guinness behind the bar for us afterwards. Course is a proper links course with stunning... More

This is one of the great layouts in links golf; towering sand dunes with well-shaped fairways weaving through them and some wonderfully set greens. For some reason during a hot summer, the fairways hadn't been watered despite a good irrigation system , and they were bare, patchy and most disappointing. The greens had also been massacred so putts were bumping all... More

The Island Club didn't spend any money on a new club house during the last Celtic 'real estate' boom so they're lucky … they will be improving the course in the next couple of years … because the members understand … they've got a good thing … and want to improve it 'over time' … It was the day of... the personnel of the pro-shop is super friendly, one feels really welcome. The golf course is very demanding and the least error is severely punished, but the good shots are rewarding. Be carefull on hole 8...trying to drive the green might be a "not so good idea".... The clubhouse bar is a bit under expectations....but the guiness is nt!

Don't miss this East coast gem. A course used for the Irish Open 2013 qualifying rounds. Great condition, interesting greens, dunes galore. If you have a low handicap request David as your caddy. He's been playing the course since he was a lad and really understands its intricacies. To really appreciate the course skip the buggy and walk. We'll be... More

We had a tour of 5 links courses last week including Royal County Cown, Royal Portrush, Castlerock, The Island and The European. The Island beat us up but we all came away with a smile. The course ranks with the best on the east coast. It is varied, challenging, and beautiful. I had always heard it was a great links,... More
