Nice display and staff available to answer questions. Centrally located about tourist information shop. Shop was small but nicely a lost art. Would be nice to have a better, more up to date website, possible lace making class information available as I believe there are several local lacemaking organizations that get together.

We have been keenly interested in the history of Kenmare lace making as part of past irish lace production for years now and on a recent time in Ireland, got a chance to head to Kenmare and attend a weekend lace making workshop with Nora and other lacemaking experts in October. we got the lucky opportunity to learn Kenmare needlepoint... I had looked forward to going here as I am a lace maker. I was not disappointed as I was met by the lady who runs the centre and her daughter. Lovely collection with an informative person on hand. I was impressed by the materials they had for sale for lace makers and they also had kits made up so... More

Irish lace is synonymous with Ireland. The Design Centre's goal is to preserve the work of nuns who supported themselves with lace making. Nora Finnegan, the director, was knowledgeable and personable as she demonstrated several types of lace making. Small items, such as doilies and linen handkerchiefs trimmed in lace were available for sale. If you enjoy traditional crafts and... More

If you sew, or know someone who appreciates handmade lace, then this shop/museum on the square in Kenmare is a wonderful place to visit. There's no admission charge, it's located on the second floor above the Tourist Information just off the square, and it's one of the most intriguing shops you'll ever see. There was a young woman sewing behind... More

I stopped into this small shop next to the Tourist Information Center to check out the lace display. Many of the good examples are in the National Museum in Dublin, so what little they had on display were minor pieces. However, it was a delight to have the daughter of the proprietor show me some of the stitches in lace... More

We went to the Kenmare Lace and Design Centre because my wife is avid lace lover. We arriaved 10 minutes passed closing time and luckily the lady was still there. She let us browsed the store and answered all our questions. If you are into lace this is the place to be.

If you crochet or needlepoint, you may find this stop to be a must. If not, you can probably bypass this location. This small shop boasts some beautiful framed samples of antique lace and also has things for sale such as, a small selection of antique handkerchiefs as well as some modern pieces (many are machine made). The very knowledgeable... More

This is basically a one-room museum/store on the second floor of the Heritage Center/Tourist Info Office in downtown Kenmare, but it is definitely worth the trip if you are into handcrafts of any kind. I do many types of needlework, and my husband included this stop in our itinerary specifically for me. Brilliant! They have antique laces from various parts... More
