A beautiful shrine to Our Lady has been built on the site of a Holy Well. During the penal times in Ireland when the practice of the Catholic Religion was outlawed, people often gathered at Holy Well's to pray. The people kept the faith alive in the midst of persecution. Our Lady's Well in Kenmare is located a short walk from the square in the town. It is a most peaceful place to just sit and pray in.

Kenmare's Lourdes! WE went her with quide and the litle grotto is most interesting with current use and maintained impeccably-the lore associated with the well is most interesting-definitely a spot to visit.

For those with an interest in the history of Ireland and the suppression of Catholicism, (I am an atheist, but this still holds interest to me) this is interesting as a quiet area where worship continued despite prohibition. There is a palpable serenity to this area. The small park has a petite "well" where what I assume is a spring exists along with a statue of the virgin Mary and a walking path where one is supposed to be healed if you manage to make 10 circuits of the small path on the angled hill. There is a true serenity to this space even in the already quiet village of Kenmare. If you happen to find yourself here, the three most interesting things to do are (in no particular order) see the stone circle and got to the Lady's Well and, if you stay in the evening, the best traditional music in the pubs that night.

If you’re visiting Cromwell Bridge, you might as well walk across the street and see this little Holy Well. It’s small, but very well kept up. Visitors come here to pray for healing.

This place isn't well advertised, but is well marked on the roads with brown signs so we decided to swing by and are glad we did. It's a peaceful religious garden. It's nice for a stroll around and is probably even more beautiful in bloom.

Following the signs in Kenmare to Our Lady's Well takes you down a quaint path and over a picturesque stone bridge. You may even see a couple of cute red cows grazing on some of that gorgeous green Irish grass. When you reach the spot, it won't be grand or impressive, but to appreciate the fact that our ancestors prayed there during generations of persecution when practicing their religion was forbidden by law really moved me deeply. And still today, local people make a pilgrimage there when they have something to talk to God about. When we stopped there we met an Irish gentleman who had come to seek some peace about an important business decision.

We walked over from our B&B. It is such a peaceful place to visit. The stone wall leading to the well is so gorgeous. It sounds like once a year there is a pilgrimage to Our Lady's Well and I can see why!

We saw this Well on our historic walking tour of Kenmare and it was one of the 'hidden gems' we would have missed otherwise. A lovely place to come and just sit. The history is interesting also. ENJOY!

A variety of tall trees sing like a symphony in the breeze. The beauty of the rock walls, paths & ledges surrounding Mary, is breathtaking. Sit on the bench, breathe deepm and relax.
