Came upon this by accident and had to look up the history. Cromwell's Bridge Probably misnamed as Oliver Cromwell never came to Kerry during his Irish campaign. It seem the name is thought to be a corruption of "croimeal", the Irish word for moustache which describes the shape. The bridge was built in the 17th century by the English settlers... More

This bridge is across the street from our lady's well and has nothing to do with cromwell, nor could anyone easily walk across it as is a very small humpback bridge. But it is an easy site to visit that is a short walk from the main swuare. More

The bridge would have been a great photo opportunatey but unfortunately on are visit in September it was under repair so didn't have the desired look More

This bridge is great photo opt especially if the water is high. Other than that it is a normal bridge but is nice walk while you explore Kenmare. More

It's just a short walk from the village's center but actually all there is to see is a very old tiny arch of stones crossing a stream. It's OK to see it but there are many, many sights much more worthwhile in the area. More

I got talking to an old local who reliably informed me that this bridge had in fact nothing to do with Cromwell. It originates from the Gaelic word for moustache which i now forget but the shape of the bridge makes sense when you see it. It's hard to imagine that a stone arch can survive all that time but... More
