If you're in the region with half a day to spare this is certainly worth a visit. The partially finished "model" town and the salt extraction history are fascinating although the project now seems a bit of a folly. If completed, the whole thing would have been stunning. Definitely worth seeing
Even on a wet day this was a superb site to visit
Make sure you see some of the extraordinary models
Large and open site, pack your slip. slap. slop or waterproofs...& your camera
Pretty gardens within the site
Art exhibitions on site too - Really no excuse for not enjoying something here!!

The saltworks at Arc et Senans provide a glimpse into the mind of one of the 18th century's neglected geniuses. Nicolas Ledoux's actual buildings are elegant but much fascination lies in the models for buildings which he never completed.
The restored gardens are also interesting and you can link this visit with a trip to the Salines at nearby Salins...
