Nestled deep in the Cornish countryside overlooking the river Tamar, Cotehele House is reached via narrow country lanes, (large vehicles be warned). The Tudor house contains many items from the Tudor period along with other pieces of a later date. The house is what I would call a medium size with most rooms open to view by the public. The... I think it must have been at least 50 years since I last went and I was so pleased that it really hasn't changed that much. It is such a pleasure to wander about and soak up the atmosphere, I might be a little biased as I was born just the other side of the river Tamar overlooking Cotehele. The... More

The property itself was interesting, but because it had never been lived in 'properly' it had a more museum quality to it. The Trust volunteers were as usual fabulous. We were a bit taken aback by being asked to leave our backpack which contained two cameras (it is specially designed for this purpose), my phone and purse. We were allowed... More

Fortunately it was a beautiful day when we visited this outstanding NT property and gardens, we were able to walk around at leisure and take it all in. The house is very grand and imposing, a real joy to wander through and try to imagine what it was like to live here all those years ago, lovely tapestries and artwork... More

Went to Cotehele by mistake, thought we were going to a different place. But really enjoyed our time there. went to the house and gardens first and then got the mini bus which is available outside the house down to the mill. Had a lovely time wandering around the mill and admiring the water wheel. Then got the mini bus... More

Lovely property cared for by the National Trust. The entire place is stunningly beautiful from the gardens to the architecture to the interiors. Lose yourself in another world for a while. The house and gardens are extensive enough to keep you busy but there is also a working quay and mill on the estate to visit. They can be accessed... More

Cotehele (say COTEHILL) is a National Trust property in Saltash, with a House, large gardens, quay and working mill. The house had been in the same family since 1353 until it was passed to the National Trust in 1947. For NT members admission is free. It is easy to spend a lot of time exploring the 20 or so acres... This National Trust property is much more than I imagined. There is an interesting estate home and lots and lots of gardens and orchards. There is also a working flour mill and a nice little cafe. We only planned to spend a couple of hours but ended up spending four. The road in is only a single land so North... More

Cotehele is a smaller property but there's a lot to see. Then there's Cotehele Quay and the Tamar sailing barge SHAMROCK. Visitors are allowed aboard but watch out for the low headroom. There are good cafes for light lunches at the house and down on the quay. Then enjoy a walk through the woods to Calstock.

I have visited this NT property twice before, and I am sure I will go again. The roads leading to it are hair-raisingly narrow, but once you arrive it's wonderful. Set in peaceful and beautiful countryside overlooking the Tamar Valley. The house is fascinating, and the gardens behind and in front of the house are beautiful. There are wonderful orchards,...
