I first came here with my young children in the early 1980's and they loved the many paths to hide away in. 30years later, I still return whenever I'm near, with my wife and my mother, and still get the same wonderful welcome from Jonny, Jenny and their sons, and more recently Sarah and her staff in the cafe. I had been feeling really stressed and these beautifully magnificent gardens ministered to my mind body and spirit with surprising secret corners with regular seating intervals to enjoy the surrounding peace and tranquility - and it isn't even at its best - I look forward to my return with anticipation, and the little friendly restaurant with its abundance of selection was... The gardens are very nice and Matlock never changes its as if its stopped in time and quite magical if you like places that stay the same, there are plenty of shops to look in and cafes and bars.

Wonderful flowers - alpine, rhododendrons & azaleas. Lovely cafe with home baking, with extensive views. Peaceful. Full of birdlife. Wheelchair friendly in parts.

Masses of brilliantly coloured rhododendrons and azaleas in springtime in a woodland setting. A magical network of winding pathways leads round - my children loved it when they were little! A lovely cafe serving homemade cakes and a pond with newts in1 a lovely afternoon out!

We were staying only about a mile away, so we had to visit. The place seems popular enough - parking was impossible, and there were even tour buses driving down the narrow lane! These aren't flower bushes- they're trees!
